This is the truck in question. How much should I offer them? They dropped the price a couple times to what it is now. I don't know what transmission it has, I emailed them asking that and for more pics. Looks like a nice truck, my dad told me to look for a nicer/newer truck if I wanted to mod it so here I am asking to see how much I should be asking for this truck. He would help me buy the truck, so I'd have to ask him about it anyhow. But back on topic, any ideas would be appreciated.

start low, ask him what you need to do to put a deal together. lol i wish i was there helpin ya buy it. start with 2500. if he says **** off, show him why its not worth what he thinks it is. hell its 12 years old with 140000 MILES. not even KMS. if it were a 4.0, maybe. a fx4, maybe. oh, doubt they had flexfuel in 2000. LOL

(im what ya call a used car sales man)

:)

Nice lookin truck.

Truck seems worth 4500 to me. but thats in ak where that truck would also probably go for like 6500.

according to KBB and NADA thats actually about 1000 below what it would normally go for. (am just saying don't low ball a guy, I refuse to sell anything if the guy lowballs me cause when I put something up I always put it up for a little bit more then its worth so they can talk me down to want I want and it pisses me off when people think they can shoot lowball offers when they don't know anything about it.)

Around here that trucks worth about 5k don't lowball them, if u offered me half og what my trucks worth especially in person (its happened) id reach out and smack the stupid out of u

dont make it sound like a lowball offer. say, ive got 2500, what can i do to put a deal together today? if he says get 4500, tell to meet you in the middle. if hes stuck on the price, show up with 3750 cash. if he doesnt go for it then your gonna pay full anyways.

sure hope for that price its passed safety

Id say, any offer less the 30% off the value of the vehicle would be a insult, if the blue book private party is about 5k on a truck a offer of half that would simply be a insult

did you guys look up the kbb for his area? values differ by area, greatly...

personally, i'm a halfer, i offered a guy 400 for a truck he was asking 900 for... took it home for 460$

someone once told me, if you think a truck is reasonably priced, not what it's worth, but not super expensive, depending on what it is, especially older vehicles, offer them half, if you can get it for 75% of the asking price, then fine, but no more than 75% and even that's a lot... offer 50% and judge their reaction... you will know right away if you're takin it home... and if they walk away, then you walk away... i offered 500$ for a beat up broncoII at a dealership, he was asking 1200, he slammed the hood shut and literally walked away from me... the thing had a big gaping hole in the dash where the stereo was stolen out of...

pull out a wad of cash before making your off, and kinda thumb through it quickly too, that gets them hungry... and use the line "...and it's gone outa your yard and no longer an issue, in 20 minutes or so"

it's a one owner vehicle though, so it's going to cost a few extra dollars... original owners don't tend to like to sell their once 20 000$ truck for 2000...

i don't think there's any flex fuel vehicles in canada, also, the listing on CL says it's a flexfuel

I just got an email from the guy this morning and he says he won't go any lower than $4000. Should I go look at the truck and bring $3500 cash just in case? Should I also try to play the poor college student card who needs a decent truck to transport tools around for school and work? I am still in school, ya know.

Yep! Its amazing how much lower guys will drop once they see cash rolling around right in front of them. If he doesn't take your $3500, just walk away. If you still want it, try phoning him back in a few days or a week, he might take it then. The worst thing you can do is decide you want a truck so bad you'll pay whatever they want for it. The reality is, its a stock Ranger. And there are millions of them around. If you don't get this one, another will pop up just like it relatively quickly.

If i was selling my truck to any of you guys I would probably beat the living c**p out of you if you offered stuff like that. No offence but the truck is worth 5500 blue book in good condition (in his area) and your going to try and buy it for 2 grand less? Yes its an older truck with higher mileage but have you noticed that prices in rangers has actually gone up in the last few years? I used to see mid 90's rangers on here for anything between 1000 - 2,500 and very rarely any more now days that range has gone up to around 2,500 - 5,000 for the same vehicles.

if i were in your situation i wouldnt buy the truck. Though the engine can last well beyond what it currently has, that much mileage for $4000 is to much for me.
