Looking at a truck, advice?

Truck is worth about $3500, at least that's what it would sell for privately in my area. The truck isn't worth $5500 to me, or even $4,200. Maybe if it had less miles. If someone told me they wanted $5,000+ for that thing, I'd be :icon_rofl: and I'd also tell him to go pound salt :D

That's just my opinion.

the kbb on a 97 4.0 5spd ranger is still almost 4k, even with 150k miles

He said that he would think about any offer I gave him, so I think I will try to make time to look at it and then give him the offer there. I was going to start at $2500 just to see what he says. Ideally, I would want to pay around the $3000 range, but I would have to ok it with my dad first anyhow. So..............

Interesting. In my area, a 97 XLT 4.0/5spd w/150k is worth around $2,700 at most. According to kbb, using a Michigan zip. Around $3,000 with 4x4. Unless I'm doing it wrong.

The trucks price checks out according to kkb for my area, btw. I thought I should mention that I looked it up for reference:

Condition: Value:

Excellent: $5,280
Good: $4,930
Fair: $4,355

Selected Equipment
Standard:
Power Steering AM/FM Stereo Dual Air Bags
Optional:
Air Conditioning Power Door Locks Bed Liner Power Windows CD (Single Disc) Alloy Wheels

Vehicle Highlights:
Mileage:150,000
Engine: V6, Flex Fuel, 3.0 Liter
Transmission: Automatic
Drivetrain:4WD

Looks like it wouldn't be a bad deal in my area after all.

I would say that if you tried to get it for any less than $4,000, you'd pretty much be stealing it from him. Just my thoughts. Unless you can prove it needs like 1+ grand worth of repair.
