Hi guys, I haven't been around in quite awhile, but I used to hang out here a lot, back when I had my Rangers, and I know that if there is something to know about Ranger based vehicles, this is the place it would be known. :icon_thumby:

So on to tonight's order of business, I need to know what to look for when I take a look at a 1990 Bronco II tomorrow morning. From the pictures I've seen, it looks solid, but, still there is a lot I don't know about these things, such as;

Where are the specific areas these things rust?

What engine problems should I look for?

Is there any thing specific I need to watch out for?

Thanks in advance for helping bring me back to the dark side...

Biggest one would probably be to check under the oil cap for any whitish "snot" crap under there. This is a tell-tale sign of a cracked cylinder head (pretty common on the 2.9L if allowed to overheat).

A 1990 might have the desirable D35 front axle depending on it's date of manufacture, check for that as well.

lift up the carpet and the rangerboard in teh rear hatch area and look at the floor around the cab mounts.

Check just under the drivers seat to see if the floor is solid.

If I remember right your a big dude so you'll like the extra room that the B2 has. Never did understand how you fit in that red regular cab truck.

I guess you got over the jeep thing or you still have the grand?

Wow, I guess I'm quite the memorable guy. Right now, I'm actually driving a '97 regular cab Ranger with a 5 speed, so the automatic was nice. The Jeep was actually sold a while ago in favor of a brand new 2005 FX4 Level II, but I got rid of that after I got sick of huge car payments. It seems like every other vehicle is a Ranger for me. If this Bronco is as good as it looks in the pictures, I don't think I'll have to get another non-Ford for quite a while.

The front corners of the back wheel arches like to rust out too, or at least down here in the rusty steel buckle of the rust belt they do.

Back springs are usually sagged out and shot. Ranger or Explorer springs swap in easily and resolve that problem.

Auto transmissions are a lil weak, but if you take care of them they'll usually (in my experience) stick around awhile. I always do a fluid and filter change as soon as I get one with an auto. And add an aftermarket trans cooler, a big one.

Check around the door hinges and the firewall. Also check the rear hatch hinges.
