Newbie here....

Found a nice looking standard cab, short bed with 28K on it. Has 3.0, auto,
2wd, air, etc.

What should I be looking for? Truck has always been in Florida an is a one-owner vehicle.

Also, is there a plug-n-play factory CD radio I can swap in place of the cassette unit?

Thanks.

there should be, just go to your local audio shop and ask for them

sure it doesnt have 128k on it? 28k seems too little of milage for a 93. unless its a grandpa truck

You may have better luck finding a radio on e-bay, a factory plug and "pray" unit. They are generally really cheap, too.

Those miles could be original, but if the truck sat for long periods of time it may not be worth a crap. I'd rather have higher miles on a late-model than really low on an older one. Time beats the hell out of a vehicle sometimes worse than miles do...

Look for water in the oil, oil in the water, gunk in the radiator, etc. Try out everything and make sure it works, heat, A/C, windows, locks, ensure the air vents blow out of the position they are supposed to, etc. Make sure the tranny fluid is clean, and it shifts into all gears properly. Check for leaks of any kind. Run a carfax on it and make sure they aren't trying to bone you.

Look at the rear leaf spring shackles. They rust through and the rear end of the truck sits about 4 inches lower than normal stock ride height. Common problem on all older Rangers. Each one of our 3 Rangers has needed those replaced.

Even though 28,000k isn't many miles, (just like the other guys are saying), not driving a truck on and off for 16 years takes its toll on everything (motor-wise).

Rust on the bottom spot weld of the tailgate is common; Even with 28K, it may have started to rust, after all it is 16 years old.

Good Luck!

After all that, it was spoken for!

Looked it over - one elderly owner, Florida truck all it's life. ALL maintenance records were on the front seat for the new owner.

Since it was a "sold" unit, I couldn't get too much into it, but it was garage kept and waxed often.
