the switch is 30 dollors, its common sense to push in the clutch when you turn the truck on..

so i was thinkin why not bypass it.. any ideas on how to do that?

look at switch, cut wires off back of switch, connect wires together...

or replace it because its there for a reason..

i've ran into a house and into a person once because of older vehicles not having one

30 dollars is alot cheaper than you not pushing in the clutch and starting your vehicle with it in gear. I don't know if you have kids or not but they love to turn things with keys stuck in them. Brutus has a good point on this. Go to a junk yard and get one off a wrecked truck. You'll spend alot less there.

not a good idea to by pass it but to each their own i reckon ... 30 bucks is a bit of money but for safety its pennies

You can also install the automatic transmission jumper (from a junkyard automatic trans truck)that connects to the clutch switch connector. That'll keep everything working, like Cruise, if installed.

I agree you should just spend the $30, or get a switch from a JY.

Might also post in our classifieds in case a member has a spare lying around for cheap.

From the 93 book:

Starter: jumper R/LB to PK
Cruise: jumper LG to LG

Don't know if 95 is the same.....

wellll i may bypass for the moment until i can get one shipped to me, not one auto store has it right now.. thanks alot guys!!

30 bucks is pennies for safety! very true about kids to, my lil brother likes messin around in my truck but i wooped his ass last time he started my truck haha(hes 8 its fine)

sometimes it comes in handy though.... like the time i drove myself out of floorboard deep water for about 20 yards with the starter alone...

that was in my 69 4x4 with plenty of gearing though... and ahem i have accidently started that one in gear also.. not fun especially when hitting something doesnt kill it. oh well

thats why i always engage the e-brake, but i guess it doesnt help much...

I've seen a similar contraption work before, we used it to crawl over a big rock without smoking the clutch... This set-up was rigged to a switch somehow though, so it would operate normally in one position and be bypassed in another... I started my bike on time in gear... It tried crawling up the side of our house... Not too fun...

acually for a wheeling rig this could be benefitial. think stuck in mud to the floor. u dont want to depress ur clutch cause then ur clutch is full of mud....

interesting...

On my 89 Ranger I have no switch on the clutch pedal (the truck was auto and had the auto jumper), but I do have the neutral switch on the M5OD R1 trans. So it can only start in neutral and if someone starts it in neutral and then shifts into gear without pushing in the clutch pedal they are an idiot. It idles and runs great.:icon_cheers:
