Heres what happined to my 33-10.50-15 allterrians,

As you can see I only had about 4" to 5" touching the ground! They were rounding off the sides. I belive the reason to be the sidewalls were too soft. No it was not a tire pressure issue. No it was not my driving style. My 31-10.50-15 allterrians lasted 80'k, these were like this at 40'k.


First burnout ever, after bfgoodrich decided to give me 75% off my next set of tires from them.

i really somehow doubt that what you have going on has anything to do with the tires. I'd bet its lack of rotations, a poor alignment, and air pressures not in check. i'd say its too wide of a tire on a thin rim but at 10.5 shoulda been ok. BFG def got your back for a problem i bet most knowledgable members will agree is most likely your doing
 
4-5 inches touching the ground but rounding the outsides off? that doesn't make sense in my head. in the picture it looks like the middle is where they are being worn. and soft sidewalls would result in more bulging of the sidewalls and wearing of the outsides with the whole tire touching the ground.. if i'm not mistaken. but the sidewalls look look pretty tight, my 31's bulge more than that. what psi were you running out of curiosity? did it do it to all four? or just the front/back etc?


i'd say its too wide of a tire on a thin rim but at 10.5 shoulda been ok.

he said they are 10.5 so they should be fine on the stock rim, they are just taller. but i agree with something else being the problem and it might not be the tire.

for the post above, thats not a alignment issue. "sidewall too soft" doesn't quite add up..

Only things that come to mind would be tire psi, too high. And rim width, too narrow. Neither seem obvious in the pics.

Whats the tire psi and rim width?
 
30psi. I don't have the rim width off hand but remember these are stock ranger rims which came with a allterrian 31-10.50-15, not a 33. I had friends follow me at times and after the ride they would always say "you tires are bending/flexing around corners"

My understanding is the tire is too skinny for its height. In turn shifting side to side on the corners. The sides of the tires had less tred then the center.

I would also think other people had problems with these tires, or maybe they had a bad batch. It was not too hard for me to convince them to help me out on my next set.
 
30 PSI is too much for a light ranger. You should be running about 28 front and 25 rear.

I go by my door sticker of 35psi, even with my 36x12.50 swampers and don't have wear issues. I rotate every oil change (5000km's)
I get better gas milage and wear out of tires that way.
 
is it best to go off the door sticker for PSI or go off what the tire says?
 
Ford recommends 30 psi front and rear for 31x10.5-15 tires on a Ranger. I think that is a little too low based on wear that I observed. I now run 33-34 front and 31 rear and get very uniform wear. It may be the the taller 33" tire needs more pressure to stiffen them up a little since they are proportionally narrower.

My 31" yokohamas do the same thing at recommended pressure... I over inflate for long trips. yah wears out the middle faster but I get better Gas mileage and it gets rid of the marshmallow feel...

The pressure on the tire is the max pressure when cold that the tire is rated for. In the small writing on the sidewall you will see that it states to refer to the owners manual or door sticker for proper inflation pressures.

The tire gives you the MAX pressure you can put in. your probably never going to need that much ever though.

So yah never put in what it says on tire:icon_thumby:

I've always ran 35PSI front, 30 rear when I had the stock 31s, 32x11.50s and now with the 33x12.50s (I run 32 PSI all around in the 35s on my BII). Wear is kept even through proper rotation.

To me it looks like a combined issue of improper inflation (too low, check your gauge for accuracy), and maybe not rotating the tires often enough.

Too low PSI would be wearing on the oustide.
I've always run 30 PSI front and rear on my B2 and it weighs 4K, a lighter ranger shouldn't need that much.
 
The OP states that the outside edges were being worn off, that would lead me to beleive under inflation aswell.
