My buddy Jason picked out a diesel one that was black (used to be a dark green I think), and had a pull-up lid.

I don't know where mine came from, maybe the military? but anyways.

They are $10 each and he had about 6 of them, all in good condition, except the seals were rotting, mine was, so I tore it off another one and put it on mine.

There is a a valve on it for some reason, it has a ball in it that can be pushed back, and it also has a tube leading FROM that valve to the bottom of the tank, WTF is this thing?

anywho, I plan on cleaning it up and repainting it with primer and red paint. I am gonna use it.

absolutely came from the military...usmc united states marine corp. Sweet find looks pretty cool.

thanks, what is that valve?

When I get the money I am going back to get another for sure, dual tanks is always better than just 1 haha.
plus, at $10, who's gonna argue? lol

i think the valve is for filling it or connecting it to a vehicle.

it's for connecting to equipment so the can will be used as the fuel tank, like the ones used on outboard boat motors.

how can I use it as a practical gas tank for everyday use? (like filing up my F150 or something)

Get a spout for the end of it and start pouring.

they make spouts for em? where can I buy one "cheap"

dont paint it red, paint it olive drab, then it'll really look military:icon_thumby:

Don't know about cheap... Amazon has Jerry can spouts for sixty bucks.

uhm.... o_0 maybe I can build one, or I can go back to the place and ask him if he knows where I can get one, or if (by a rare chance) he has one.

If I get any of them, it will be this:

Also, I might see about buying a cap, and just drilling a hole in it, and installing a multi-direction pipe from a hardware store =)

What can I get for the valve?

Yes to olive drab....never seen a military can red before. All the cans we used in the military were olive drab. Great fine, Bro!!!! Great price. I found some near us for over $40 each, and I would have to clean them up!!!

Yeah, 3 of 6 of them were rusty on the inside, this one and the one Jason got were pretty clean, I "think" his was spotless because diesel wont allow rust, lol.

I was wondering how to get the rust out of the inside?

Last time I was at the place, the "Treasure Chest", he had only 1, and it was old and rusty, but I went back (this time) and he had 6, so, yeah. Lucky =)
He wanted 15 when he had only 1, and the other place that there was, a junk store, had one that was black, no rust, for $15 also.
