ok guys whats the longest time you have driven your truck strait? looking for some info for a future road trip, what rpm does the 2.9 like to be at....and what speed does that translate into? then post info on your trip:

1. how far you drove, with how many pit stops

2. gas milage

3. avarage speed

Farthest I drove on my 1987 with a 2.9L 5-speed was from Fairmont, WV to Lafayette, IN. Don't remember the mileage from that I got on the trip, but I remember never seeing over 18MPG from that truck.

My 2006 4.0L 5-speed is a different story. I drove it from Fairmont, WV to Kileen, TX in 21 hours (straight drive). I averaged 360 miles per tank on that drive (20 gallon tank). Hauled a UHaul box trailer on the return trip and averaged 320 miles per tank. Drove a bit slower on the way back and drove it in two 12 hour days.

Been a long time since I owned my 87 but it always did get good gas mileage, even with the 4.56's and 30" tires. I once drove it from St. Louis to a 4wheel Jamboree on the far side of Ohio. Can't recall how many miles it was but it would get around 22 mpg averaging about 65mph. The funny thing about that is my ranger always got better mileage the my 87 bronco2 did, even though the ranger was geared steeper with bigger tires. Guess that's what you get when you tune on the same engine for about 10 years. The more I talk about that truck the more I miss it.

18mpg with the 2.9? was it a 4x4?

Yes, it was a 4x4 regular cab with long bed, 4" lift, 32" tires, and some custom gearset with for the front and rear (not sure of the ratio) and the engine had been rebuilt and de-emissioned.

Last year I drove from Augusta Ga, to Washington DC.
almost 600 miles, one way. With traveling around the area, it was over 2000 miles round trip

Trip took about 8 hours one way, I stopped only for gas twice, on the trip there and back.
I think I got around 15 MPG.

I have been on several trips to Tenn, 4.5 hours one way.

I travel alot, racking up 80K miles in just 3.5 years:icon_surprised:

Hey, it's Pat Kunz! Read a few of your articles years ago.

I made the trip from here to South Daytona Beach Florida - a little over a 1,000 miles. I think it took about 20 hours (strait thru) and had to stop 5-6 times. I did about 70-75mph there and 80-85 home. To there, I probably averaged 17-19 mpg. Can't remember too much of a trip home except it was HOT when I left and cold & snowed out when I got back into Indiana.

My speeds were probably killing my mileage, the truck isn't exactly aerodynamic. I imagine 65 would have been a lot better, but 65 would have been a bad call through Atlanta per se. :)

I used to do a 150 mile one way trip to college 2x a week a few years ago. I got 23 mpg almost everytime, i averaged 65mph, maybe 70 downhill and 50 uphill lol.
