This is to let everybody know I will not be participating in The Ranger Station Forums any more. Not only did I not find out what I was looking for, I responded to a notice that I had a private message by downloading a program that I was told was free and necessary for me to read my private message. It turned out to be a big bag of spamware that I could only remove by purchasing another program.

I know I was born at night, but it wasn't last night. First time, your fault, second time, my fault. Goodbye and have fun

If you read this, sorry you had a bad experience.
For anyone else, there is no need to download ANY programs in order to read a PM [Private Message].

I've never seen or heard of any notice like that. What did it look like, where did it come from?

What ever it was wasn't from Ranger Station.
But it is a common trick, not for Rangerstation, first I have heard of it here, an email shows up and looks legit, you click on it and all of a sudden "fake" popup warns appear, they look like Windows type warnings but are not, they get you to infect your own computer, lol.

My Dad got something similar in an Email, wasn't too hard to clean off, they are trying to "sell you the fix" for the trojan they installed and what you get(buy) is an anti-virus program, so technically it is not illegal, just immoral.

But because it is not out to destroy your computer it can be cleaned off.
Try Rkill to stop all programs
Then run a new anti-virus program on the computer
Any anti-virus program on the infected computer will not remove it, it was compromised when you got the trojan, so anything it finds will just come back on the next startup.
Rkill doesn't remove anything, it stops it from running so when it is found and "cleaned" it can not hide in registry to come back on the next startup.

Rkill and Malwarebytes are great to keep on a USB stick for just these times, and they are both free, legally free, lol.

Never heard of that here. Your only other post was just a new member notice, giving background of your truck. Sorry but I don't see any question there that someone could help you with.

Sorry that your short experience here was substandard. It appears that you are blaming the site for your computers spam bot. I hope not. Shame on you for not having the proper virus protection on your computer to prevent it. You are not the first and definately will not be the last to get this. Go to other sites and you risk the same problem as you can here. It's not the sites problem nor anyone else's here on the site. If you are on any other sites they do not require you to download anything to receive PM's.

Man, you guys are really kind on this forum lol. Most of the other forums I'm on bash people when they publicly announce they are leaving.

Thank you. One of the reasons this forum is so good is because its members. There may be times that there is some not so nice stuff said but it seems that everyone self-polices and watches out for everyone else. It's very seldom that I have to step in, and I believe that's the case with the other moderators.

A good antivirus thats free and the even some of the major government sectors use is AVG. It a little tricky to get the free version. Several webpages that ask you to buy then has a small link to continue on to the free version. I hope you will reconsider and stay even if you may only log on once a month or so.

It wouldn't do any good considering his mind has already been made up. He had one post and another to complain about a virus he got, you know.......the one from the site so he could read his PM's.
