Locking hubs

it creates extra rolling resistance and hurts mpg if the drive train does not rotate that often then locking hubs and driving for a little while cant hurt. and if you want to do this as a permanent thing then you will notice an increase in repair intervals as you are increasing the wear and tear . if you have greasable joints then i'd say grease them more often with the increase in usage

It's fine if you're driving in snow so you can go in and out of 4x4, otherwise I wouldn't make too much of a habit of doing it.

I often lock my hubs the first time it snows and only unlock them for running on the interstate after the roads are cleared.

It's pretty much a non issue except for the slight additional vibration and fuel consumption.

"Stirring the lube" around and circulating grease in the U-joints is far
better than not using them for months at a time.
