I have open D35 up front, 8.8 28spline in the rear with Traction Lok 3.73s on 33s. I am going to 4.10s and want a Detriot up front so I can unlock my hubs and keep my street mannerisms. For the rear I want a locker but not something that will kill me the 70% of the time I'm on pavement. I hear ARB is worthless, so are Eaton Elocker, Auburn, and OX my only real options left? If so, what do you recommend.

A Detroit locker in the rear and an aussie locker up front.

The Ected?

Absolute junk. Not a true locker when locked.

Its got clutches in it that pretty much just tighten up when it is engaged, and once they wear out I hear they are not replaceable.

I gotcha. Thanks man. Why did you go Aussie up front instead of Detroit, other than price? And how tough is your Detriot on your tires, on road?

I actually don't have an Aussie up front. I'm open still. Personally, that is what I would do. Mainly cost wise. Haven't heard anything but good things about the aussie lockers and the price is very very good.

As for the tires, I daily drive my truck every day to get to and from work. I'm running bias ply swamper SX's and after 2 years of DD'ing it i'm still sitting at well over 70% tread. The Detroit allows the tires to differentiate around corners to minimalize wear and tear (unless you get on the throttle going around corners).

+1 on aussie up front- I got one in my 85 and it is by far the best investment for my truck. with the hubs unlocked, you could never know its there but when there locked the beast goes through anything. turring isn't horrible either but it does lessen when engaged. an absolute awsome locker I must say.

Sasquatch, I see ya got the 31 spline explorer axle with your Detriot. Is that something I should do if im running a locker?

If you are sticking with 33" tires I see no reason to swap. By replacing the carrier with the Detroit locker you are already upgrading a weak point of the 8.8. You should be fine. If you want some extra insurance you could always get some aftermarket axle shafts to beef it up a bit more.

Id personally swap in the 31 spline 8.8 before you regear and do a locker. Its relatively easy and you could use one with discs 95+ and upgrade there as well. my aussie up front is awesome. Ive only had it for a month but after wheeling without one let me tell you it DOES make quite a difference. I also have a detroit Truetrac limited slip rear that uses helical gears instead of a clutch system. Its nice in the rear of my manual trans. daily driver.

Whats an affordable 8.8 28 spline locker that is reliable.
