Going to start looking for replacement drivers (...or is that the coupler...). Just thought I'd ask and offer the pics since I didnt really see much in the search

Thanks!

That is locker royally fooked. How did you manage that? what is your tire size?

Oh...and where are the missing bits? did they mess up any bearings and/or your gear set?

not entirely sure how it happened. Im the second owner of the locker. The ring and pinion are fresh as is just about everything inside. The old stuff didnt look bad...nothing out of the ordinary. I wonder what did happen to those little pieces :/

I have a feeling this is going to get filed in my "You shoulda known better" folder.

edit: Oh, previous owner was in a 1st gen explorer with an 4.0 OHV and an automatic. Think he was rolling 33x12.50's at the time.

wow, you are the first person i have seen that has broken a lock right. and you wanna see if you can find the piece if you can cause it can get sucked into bearings or between the ring and pinion and cause bad things.

ya, I'll have to ask the PO if he remembers anything about it lol

As for the pieces...I had 2 different explorer axles. 1 with the perches already flipped and the one with the locker. So did a lil mixing and matching. The only two things from the rogue axle are the locker itself and the carrier.

The odd part is, driving on it the last few days hasnt been bad at all. It actually rides pretty smooth with the exception of low speed turns (where the ratcheting effect is super loud/obvious).

does that still have the ratcheting effect? Ever since I bought that lock right I've heard nothing but bad stories about it. If detroit's locker is better, Id definitely consider it.

I'm pretty close to just calling this a trail only vehicle, so I might just go for the most reliable thing I can get my hands on.

Some ppl have had good luck with Detroits, but I am not one of those ppl and I would stay far away. The one I had to deal with was an absolute pain in the ass, and I highly recommend Powertrax products over Detroit products.

I'd clean it all out real good with brake cleaner and find those small pieces, take the Lock-rite out and see if you can just get another side clutch or driver what ever its called, if thats the only thing wrong with it.

A properly installed and functioning Powertrax Lock Right or No-Slip is EXTREMELY reliable and rugged...despite them only being lunch box lockers. Only when you get into really deep gearing and tires 35" and larger do they become sorta borderline strength-wise. They are usually stronger than the case you put them in, meaning the case will fail first.

It looks like thats what I'm going to do. I'm wheeling next weekend so hopefully nothing horrendous will happen. Until I get all the parts and money for a EB dana 44 swap, I wont run anything larger than 33's. I'm also planning on getting an f-150...so the lil ranger will be my trail toy at that point.

...of course I do have a welded carrier I could throw in lol. Just have to set up those gears again :/

i guess the key is "properly installed". i have a LockRight in my light weight trail rig, and a Detroit in my ranger.
Detroit is quiet and i never know it's there til one tire starts to spin, then instant lockup and i'm on my way. very smooth.
the LockRight has the unmistakable clicking going around corners and the occaisional bang every now and then as it unloads. it's ok and does the job. just noisy.
both were professionally installed and neither has given me any problem. i do know the Detroit seems to be much more heavy duty, quieter, and smoother in operation. and from the looks of it, much more difficult to install the wrong way.
just my $.02.

I second the Detroit. Excellent locker that works all the time every time. As far as I'm concerned Detroit is the number 1 locker out there.

I've had mine for 3 years now on 36" tires with zero problems.

well, maybe someday I'll put a detroit in the rear of the ranger. If lottery winnings or pipe dreams come around at any point...well, I'd rather have an e-locker or arb air unit. Thats just because I'd like to be able to drive out to Colorado and mix it up a bit.

As for now, I found a good deal on another lock-right. Probably keep the leftovers (maybe have it welded?) and just try not to break another one.

Thanks for the help guys/gals

ive never had a detroit till this last week in this new expo, its so quiet and smooth that i almost doubted it was there until a little more driving...i was very suprised

I gotta say...I was really tempting fate there! Luckily she didnt capitalize.

I installed the new lock-right and its *so* much smoother. I'm not sure if the older springs were worn out or the extra missing metal was the culprit...but man, night and day.
