When my ignition is first turned off, the radio (Blaupunkt Monterrey) will continue to play for 3 to 4 minutes, and will then shut down. That is Most of the time. Maybe 5% of the time it will go off with the ignition switch as expected and desired. Also noted, the lock cylinder is worn to the point that I can remove the key in the run position. Will replacing the lock cylinder cure the electrical gremlins or am I looking at both the lock and ignition switch? Also, Haynes manual claims that the lock cylinder is anchored by two nuts. I'm not readily seeing this. Where are they located? Under the multi=function switch?

there is a retention pin that secures the lock cylinder, you will need to remove the column cover and then turn the key 2 clicks forward to the on position. depending on whether or not you have a tilt wheel you will need a piece of thick curved wire (tilt wheel) or a straight piece / pick tool (non tilt). on the bottom side of the LC there is a small hole that you will need to slide the wire into to disengage the LC retention pin. once you push it in you should be able to pull on it and it will slide out.

Thanks OffRoad. I had hoped to get back here before anyone noticed my error. I was mixing instructions for the lock cylinder replacement with those for the ignition switch. Both were replaced yesterday. However, the puzzling issue with the radio still exists. I'm ruling out wiring issues because of the few times it has shut off properly with the ignition. Maybe it's time to contact Blaupunkt or check the audio forums for some input.

Once again THANX!!!!!!

Update

Decided to recheck the wiring on the stereo and check the ignition controlled power feed. After the ignition was turned off lead still carried power for a couple of minutes. Followed the lead back and found a "filter & fuse box" inline with the power and ground leads. Box contains what appears to be a small capacitor. Power before the box was cut by the ignition but the wires leading out of the box still showed hot. Removed the box from the circuit and all is well.

Once again Thank you for your input.
