Looking for Load C tire recommendations in LT245/75-16 (stock is P255/70-16). Will likely be tire shopping in Spring 2011.

So far I have found the following tires that fit the bill:

1. Firestone Destination A/T
2. Toyo Open Country A/T
3. Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac
4. Falken High Country A/T

Mostly city and hwy driving with some gravel and mud laden forestry roads (work related). Snow performance is not an issue since I have studded winter tires.

Everything else is stock (no T-bar crank or body lift). I am assuming that LT265/75-16 will rub without T-bar cranking.

P-rated tires might be considered....not sure if they are durable enough (already had one puncture with an embedded piece of metal). Stock tire is the Goodyear Wrangler RT/S.

Thanks for any recommendations or advice.

try shopping here for your tires. been running the AT's for 4 years now. very good traction, minimal wear, great prices:

there is a thread about them here:

i have a set of the Destination AT's on a truck i just bought and in the snow i have here, they SUCK! tread loads up and doesn't clear, slip and slide everywhere, and they are nearly new! can't wait 'til the spring thaw and 6 inches of mud on the roads. it'll be sitting in the driveway 'til all the water soaks in and the roads dry up.
had the TOYO's on our old (2004) subaru forester and loved them! excellent traction in all kinds of weather. wear was more than acceptable on the light subaru. just wish they were cheaper!
i'm in northern Minnesota and get lots of snow, lots of mud in the spring, and travel gravel and dirt roads daily as i live quite a ways out of town.
good luck finding tires, and Welcome to TRS!!

Are you buying load range c tires for durability and increased puncture resistance? If so don't waste your money. Most punctures wont be stopped by the extra 2 plys.

Now for the tires you have already selected, I've never been a fan of Firestone tires and really don't like their designs. I am running the Toyos and they aren't bad, they have great traction but they are wearing faster than I would like to see, especially for what I paid for them. The Duratrac is also a nice tire, I have installed a few sets on trucks however the tread compound seems really soft. As far as the Falken's go I have no experience with them so I can't comment on them. Another tire to look at would be the Cooper Discoverer ATR. It has very good traction, is long wearing, and we run them on our road service van which gets sent everywhere from construction sites and farms to factories and we have never had a problem with them and never get stuck.

For sizing the I am running the 265/75r16 and it fits without rubbing and is the tallest the 245 is a little narrower and shorter but is still taller then the stock tires.

I would also recommend the Cooper ATR, its a good cheaper tire with great tread wear and stuff. But if you want an AWESOME A/T tire I wouldn't hesitate to get Bridgestone Dueler Revo II's, they wear a little faster then others and are a bit more expensive but have really good traction even in snow.

Thanks for the replies.

I have found that Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo does in fact have a load C tire in the LT245/75-16 size.
