yea my 2003 2.3l duratec dohc has a tick tick tick...

it only does it after it warms up, and it sounds like a pinhole by the exhaust manifold, but its not... we thoroughly checked it for leaks... its sounds more like its coming from the motor...

i seafoamed it, and ran 3 tanks 93 octane gas through it with injector cleaner..

i changed the oil to mobil 1 5w-20 full synthetic, with no results...

shes still ticking away, any suggestions?

Give it some time man.

How many miles?
Does it get worse under acceleration/full throttle?

64k miles, 2003...

u can hear it up until about 3k then its not noticable

Be patient, hardly anyone is online this early in the morning.

How loud is it? Lifter ticks are really loud in my experience. Fuel injectors "tick" all the time.

Generally lifters, fuel injectors, exhaust leaks, and a shredded belt with a piece hitting something will be the most common things that tick. You've already ruled out the exhaust leak, so check your belts, and if they're ok, it's either lifters or injectors. I would just ignore it for a while to see if it gets worse, if so, it's probably lifters.

its perfectly normal.. its a trait of the duratec engine. along with excessive vibration, and a weird IAC that holds rpms up in between shifts.

i used to worrie bout it too untill i found out that all of them do it. check out all the ford focus forums, all the guys with the duratec 2.3 complain about the "tick" and diesel resemblance.. u'll learn to live with it

these motors are in for the long haul(300k+ mile life span) so jus do regular maintenance and drive the lil thang:icon_thumby:
