Linex or Rhino Linigs?

and rino lining like melts in dust
i worked at a body shop and this truck we had in there
the rails turned greenish grey after a week
it didnt help i didnt spray off the rail but still
and it had some white ,flakey stuff in it
it just looked like crap and didnt really grip anything when i moved the truck
i had to go pick up the crap all over the lot after i moved it

I don't know which coating they used on "Smash Lab", a new low budget "Mythbusters" but they coated one truck bed and not the other, put equal explosive charges under the trucks.
One truck bed was blown apart but the coated one stayed together, it was all bent up but still together.

They were also playing with it to see if it would work on the inside of buildings to help guard against truck bombs and such.

How they spray and prep just depends on who does it, i just had Rhino liner installed in my 04 ranger and i love it, the guy who did it removed all the bolts and hooks then reinstalled them after. he also grinds all the paint off to get a really good bond. he even sprayed over the rails including the tailgate to protect them and it looks really sharp. i think it comes down to personal preference and what you're using it for. if you really wanna know go take a good look at each product but from the sounds of it getting either one is a good idea.

Why couldn't you just put all those posts in one large one with a few lines in between each quote? It would make it alot easier to read.

I don't have experiance with either, but my uncle has a Line-X and he loves it. It looks like it did the day he got it. It has held up well and it gets ABUSED. Trannys, engines, axles, chunks of metal, anything you can imagine has been flying/ bouncing around in that liner for about 5 years now. As far as I know, no chunks have fallen off either, still stuck on everywhere.

EDIT: If you get a bed liner, do the over the rails one. The tops of the bed get beat, especially the top edge of the tailgate. My uncle said that is the only thing he would have done differently. Instead of just going under the bed sides, he wishes he'd have gone over them too.

I have Line-x in my 08 and I can tell you it is NOT slippery. I haul trannys in the bed and they leak. Even with the oil, it's not sliding around. Its tough too. Those bellhousing's are sharp and barely makes a mark.

I am a chemist and deal with urethane materials quite often. I had the bed of my Ranger coated with Line-X in 2002 and it is still holding up well. I slide heavy stuff in and out of it a lot. There are some corners of raised areas that show a little wear but nothing to be concerned about.

The reason I selected Line-X over Rhino is because Line-X is harder and allows things to be slid across it easier. It has better anti-skip properties than the bare paint but not nearly as good as Rhino.

Rhino is good if you want anti-skid but will tear more easily than Line-X. In dealing with urethanes, I have found that the harder ones are more abrasion resistance and have more resistance to tearing and are typically higher in tensile strength. The softer urethanes have better anti-skid properties and have greater elongation.

Most urethanes are susceptible to UV light and will chalk up with long term exposure to it. This is usually a surface effect and does not effect the material underneath it. Line-X applies a UV resistant top coat but that can wear of with use and may still be effected by UV. My bed has a shell on it and shields the Line-X from UV. Through 2007 I did have the shell off for a year and noticed the coating went from a satin finish to a flat finish but it did not turn chalky.

Line-X has been tested as a protection from explosion and has proven to decrease the damage.

If a Line-X coating is damaged in any way, you can take it to any Line-X applicator and they will repair it under warranty. I have been told that with Rhino you have to go back to the same applicator that originally coated it for warranty repair. Maybe not a problem but could be.
