Hey guys, I'm getting ready to Lincoln lock the 7.5 in my truck. I'm well aware of all the risks associated with this and this truck is a strictly off road use vehicle and I have a spare rear end so I'm not worried about the risks.

My questions are, is there any parts that need to be replaced with new parts after I pull the carrier out? And I saw on another thread to not use any solvents for cleaning everything (I assume the would include brake parts cleaner and the like) is this the case? If so, why not?

Thanks for your help.

That is extremely good to know haha. Thanks for the heads up.

I'd weld it in the housing, or at least some very good tack welds. Never done it but I've heard some things might not line up afterwards very easily. That might be internet BS though, I've always seen it done while still installed, with a rag covering the ring gear.

Non-chlorinated brake cleaner should be ok. You're going to have to SUPER clean everything somehow in order for the weld to not be contaminated (weak).

tack it good and pull it out for full weld would be my preference as well.

just dont mix the shims up

powerwashing usually works good followed up with a nc/brake cleen douching and secondary rinse goes a long way towards an excellent weld up...

incidentally its the best thing you can do to a 7.5. i was real good at destroying those.

Thanks guys. I just have a lil 110 welder so ill tack it as best as i can before I pull it out for someone else to finish it up. I plan on using NC brake cleaner for the first wash then acetone for a couple of really washes. I read up on a welding forum from that google search always floored posted and those guys seem to like acetone.
