lincoln 5.0


this makes me respect my 4.0 more. iam kinda sad cause i was wanting a drastic change, you know like boiling the tires off and shit. but one last thing to ask before i just try and beef my 4.0 up. how much different in hp. is there going to be when i open it up with headers, ele. fans, k&n. and maybe latter different intake and throttle bodie?
 
Headers? 10-15 hp. electric fan ? maybe 5hp (MAYBE) K&N ? 2HP. The intake ? Depends in what you use to start with and what other mods done later. Throttle body ? Thought we were talkin carbs here. My bad.:D
 
thanks guys, i got an idea of what its going to take. i think iam just going to wait on a better donor car that hard to pass up, but on the mean time just work on beefing up my 4.0. i really had no idea of how good the 4.0 was, but idk, thanks guys!
 
Unfortunately theres not a very large aftermarket for the 4.0, at least not compared to the 5.0.

The only real way to get anything more out of the 4.0 is to just start throwing cash at it for things like cams, port n polish, etc etc.

In the long run, the 5.0 will end up being cheaper to build than the 4.0 will.

If you want more out of your 4.0, look at a gearing change. If you want more out of the 5.0, there are dozens of ways to make it scream for cheap. Get yourself a set of E7TE heads. They are everywhere and are cheap. Remove the valves, strip the heads bare and get out your die grinder. Lay your gaskets on and port match everything. Then grind out the thermactor bumps. There's a fair bit of power left in those heads and it's free to modify them yourself.
