Lincoln 5.0 to Explorer

How well would a Lincoln 5.0 fit into the 1st Gen Explorers and would the wiring harnesses work? I had an offer from a guy here locally about getting his 5.0 from his running Lincoln for $300. Not sure of the miles though. If it would fit, would the stock X 5 speed hook up or no? What would be a good 5 speed tranny?

Yes, it will physically fit, though somewhat tightly. No, your stock trans will not bolt up. Most of the guys that convert the 5.0 explorers to manual use the 5 speed from the 97 to 0x f150s. And the wiring will be quite a job.

Just make sure it's the HO version otherwise you're looking at only 150HP. As far as the actual swap, just treat it like the Mustang motor swap, using the Mustang wiring and computer. Don't know how compatable the Linclon wiring would be.
