I have a 94 ranger... when driving with my lights on my headlights sometimes cut off on their own, sometimes they flicker on and off. the dash lights also do this at the same time the headlights do. i have an aftermarket radio and its light stays on normal when the dash and heads are flickering on and off. I am assuming that it is the main light switch... well, i took out the switch and the plastic male plug that goes into the switch looks like it has a distorted spot on it as if it had been heated/melted a little bit... the contacts for the plug look fine. it is just the plastic housing that looks bad... my questions is what would cause the plastic to melt? could it be a short at the plug? a short somewhere else? bad ground? is the switch bad? is there too much of a load on the switch? also, my bulbs are stock as far as i know. I appreciate any help.

There is electrical grease inside the switch, some times that witch make it hard for the current to pass threw it and it causes the metal terminals to heat up, and thus you end up with a bad electrical switch, if your plug or pigtail is discolored its a good chance you have to big of a draw.

But if you have stock bulbs then I would say just replace your switch and you should be good to go as long as your pigtail still fits.

thanks, for the reply... i went ahead and bought a new switch... the pigtail still fits.

would anyone happen to know what color wire goes to what prong on the switch...

That I cant help you with, I have a 95 so the switches are not the same.
But I can supply you with a wiring diagram if you like.
