got an 89 Ranger XLT 4x4.. im about to build a prerunner bumper and light bar for the roof but im torn between lighting positons.. whats the best way?? im going with KC HiLites 57 series long range, driving, and fog lights. 4 on the light bar and 2 mounted up front on the bumper.. my original idea was for 2 LR center on the LB with 1 fog on either side and driving lights up front. but would it better if i had the LR on the bumper? or have 4 LG to on the roof and 2 on the bumper? not sure what the best setup is... input is greatly appreciated before i order what i dont need lol:annoyed:

I've never really liked lights mounted above your line of vision, they tend to lower contrast of the road's surface (hides the shadows from rocks, pebbles, potholes, etc.).

Any lights you use to see right in front of you I would strongly suggest putting them on the bumper. The long-range spots probably could go up above if you have no room left for them up front however (at long distances contrast doesn't matter as much).

Fog lights should be mounted as low as possible otherwise they just light up all the dust & fog in front of you.

Good answer. I run the pencile beams up top with the center two straight forward and the outside two a touch left and right ditch digging for moose/caribou ect. Then amber fogs and clear floods on the front bumper. Only critters i ever creamed was bugs and birds.

The Combination I was always happiest with was a pair of YELLOW foglamps mounted as low as possible and a pair of driving lights mounted above the bumper level with the headlamps

The effect this gives close in is a sea of yellow right in front of the vehicle
and anything as thick as a quarter casts a white shadow away from you, you literally can see every pebble.

The only problem is that this setup puts those foglights in a very vulnerable position
