My credo
If you can't go through it or around it, then go over it.
Got a 99 expedition eddie bauer with the crappy un reliable lincoln Navigator air ride. I am going to ditch it in favor of the coil spring converson and I am wondering if a lift kit for any old 99 expedition will serve this function or if I have to install the strut master coil kit first then shop lift kits........

The internet has not been clear on this........

Also I want to dump the awd/4wd/4lo transfercase that came in the navigator (not to be confused with the 2wd/awd/4wd/4lo tcase in my excursion) in favor of a 2wd/4wd/4lo transfercase....

Anybody know the dimensional differences?

This mainly going to be my ongoing project truck and probably handed over to my oldest son when he starts driving.

I am pretty sure that is a 4406 transfer case, and it also comes without the AWD feature. My F150 has a manual 4406 with 2wd/4hi/4lo. Should be very similar in size. I can get pics please iffin you need.

Posting from the Galaxy.

:iamwithstupid:

From my research... they made 3 different versions of the 44-06: (6 if you include the 97-98 with a speedo hole and the 99+ without.)

E-shift (non-AWD)
TOD (AWD)
Manual shift

The E-shift and TOD (Torque on Demand -or- AWD) are pretty much the same except the TOD case has shaft speed sensors. The interesting thing is while in AWD the front drive is engaged by a magnetic clutch like the Explorer 44-05, but in true 4wd is shifted by a fork and actually locked into 4wd.

That may be but I get a 4x4 flashy light on the guage cluster in awd and the front tires scrub. Switch it to 4wd and the flashy light goes away and the tires still scrub (because its in 4wd) I just want a simple e-shift transfer case with a 2wd position and just eliminate the awd all together......

I would put locking hubs on it if I could without swaping to a solid axle.

So will a 2wd e-shift from a 99 f-150 bolt to the 4r100 or do I need a case from a superduty? I was wondering about the dimensions because the engine is set back like in a navigator and it moves the whole powertrain back making for a longer front shaft and a shorter rear shaft. Can I get a 2wd case in without relocating the engine or having a new driveshaft made?

Yes, any one of the 3 I listed will physically swap... but you will need a GEM from another '99 Expedition that had the E-shift transfer case to control it.

You may be able to do just the "Brown wire mod" (as its call on Explorerforum), like they do on the Explorers. What that is: You put a switch inline from the GEM to the transfer case magnetic clutch. It allows you to shut off power to the clutch and gives you true 2wd.

That's worth looking into...
Thanks
