Hi, first post. Pretty sure this is the right forum. I didn't see any that specificaly related to lifting or modifications.
So, I just got my '91 Ranger S 2WD up on explorer leaf springs, and used the explorer shock mounts. I did a straight spring pack swap, didn't take leaf springs out of either and mix and match. I ended up with about 3.5" of lift, which I was pretty stoked about for under $100.
As I was re-reading the article in the Tech Library by 4X4Junkie that says you may need to invert the center leaf springs pin. For whatever reason I didn't think about it and didn't do this.
Can anyone confirm how important this is? The pin is in the same arrangement as the original Ranger springs, I.E. smooth part facing up, nut facing down into the divot where it fits nicely and you bolt the U-bolts on.
My springs show evidence of being monkeyed with before, the spring brackets are longer than the amount of leaf springs I have, which makes me think in an effort to level out the nose-down stance, someone removed a spring, or maybe one broke and they just didn't care, so it's entirely possible the center pin was installed incorrectly, and I have a tendency to just make things look like what came off, because it's been working thus far.
Think I should re-do it all to swap the pin?
