Lifting my 97

Thanks man :icon_thumby:

Hows your little ranger doing?

Replaced all of the brake lines and it's back on the road :icon_thumby:

Next step will be gas tank filler hose & straps. I blew the clutch in my Xterra, so I'll have to wait 'till I fix that to tear back into the lil' ranger.

looks good, i'll have to get my shit running again and join you for one of these runs

Probably but the yokes egging out and the caps spinning dont have anything to do with each other.

wrong :annoyed:

what do u think happened to my first set of axles? none of them "broke", but the caps are no longer a press fit.. cappy go spin spin, removey material from yokey hole.

u never listen to me anyways, so why bother explaining :thefinger:

The caps only spin in the first place cause the yokes stretch.

Anyway, I dont believe a word you say until I break it myself. You lie.......

(next wheeling trip)........ So maybe Andrew was right..... oops.

FWIW, you can address spinning, egged caps by putting strong loctite around the outside of the bearing cup. It will immobilize everything and keep it from getting worse.

In my experience, most loose yoke ends are actually due to corrosion. The seam will rust up when you're parked and then the next drive will beat the rust out. A few cycles will make for a loose fit. When I assemble u-joints I tend to place either loctite around loose-fitting cups, or anaerobic sealant around tight-fitting cups to keep moisture out. The only reason I use anaerobic instead of loctite is to make disassembly easier--you could just as well use loctite in all cases.

Caterpillar sells a high strength bearing retainer compound that is the best in my experience. It goes on green and you'll need to heat it with a torch to get it back apart. I suspect it's just a re-branded permatex product, but I don't know for sure.

Andrew........ go get some egged shafts...........

I started this summer thinking I was going to mud my truck, but after cleaning it up the first couple of times.......mud is fun, but it takes way too long to clean up to be worth it!!

Man listen to you girls bitchin' about mud. J/K, here in South Jersey all we have is mud, mud, and more mud. Rocks would be nice once in a while.

Ah come on. Mud's the only terrain that leaves an easily removable trophy. Sand doesn't stick very well and rocks do a lot more damage. Mud rules. Cool videos at the mud bog. "Awwww Timmy!"

Last wheeling trip out I decided to hit a mud hole, ended up being some of the soupiest crap I have ever been in, but I got egged into it. Got struck right away, ended up packing my radiator with mud and than my truck ran hot the rest of the day......it was like 80 out with the heat cranking to keep it cool. The it took me 3 days with the hose to get it all cleaned out...MUD SUCKS and it is harder on shit than anything else I have been in.

But I have to admit, it looks cool stuck to the side of my truck!
