Lifting my 97


I get 3 tows per year so I got 2 left.

the way i understood it with AAA+, is you get 3, free 100 mile tows per 12 month period, starting when you sign up.. aka it doesn't start jan 1..

im glad the gears are getting warrantied! do you think you might be down for the sunday ride?
 
Hmmmmmmm. I think that the thread lock might have been forgotten on the ring gear bolts.


Carnage totals so far:
Thrashed ring gear bolts.
Dented diff cover. .......... Yeah. Dented.........
egged ring gear bolt holes in carrier.

Well man, atleast from what you've told me the gears are salvagable... Crappy that the problem was a result of install, hope you loc-tited the front :X
 
He had a friend do the gear install.

It doesn't look to me like lock-tite was used either.

That seriously sucks.

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAH, you are right! tim gave me so much shit for my breakage, saying i skinny pedal wheeled.. first trip out with the front locker he broke a shaft, second trip out he blew up the entire drive train, lol


i've already gone through ALL of this breakage except the gear problems, cuz i had the gears installed by the best drive train shop within 2hrs of here.. (not some random dude that apparently half-assed your shit..)

heavy ext cab = D60 or go home..

Just to rub it in my 4 door exploder with a welded front d35 and my mini spooled 8.8 both took a brutal beating from 9PM to midnight without ANY failure. You 2 have bad luck. I STAND on the gas regularly and am yet to have a d35 shaft fail.

Lol, my 8.8 gave out before the D35.... THAT was a surprise.
 
I suspect that this gear damage was a result of a piece of the broken shaft getting where it shouldnt have....... that is between the ring and pinion thus the broken tooth. that combined with the lost oil which wasted the bearings leads to FUBAR.


Thus the carnage went like this

Missing/insufficient thread lock----> Ring gear bolts fall out------> Front wheel drive + Stupid decision to wheel the next day :badidea: ---------> borken front shaft + attempt to drive home --------> chunk between ring and pinion --------> AAA --------> Gears destroyed.................:bawling::buttkick: :owned:
