Lifting my 97

That's a sweet idea. Grease fittings on a rotor hmmm... Gives me an idea..

Thanks. We will see how it works. I have read that too much grease can cause wheel bearings to over heat. However the only other believeable source I found this info on was from mercedes benz. IDK if its more of a concern at higher speeds or if it will be a problem at the normal speeds that this truck will see.

If you're only running at low speeds with big wheels, don't sweat the over-grease problem. But for wheels that will spin quickly, like highway speeds, the grease needs room to flow so heat can be transferred from the bearings to the rest of the housing. The heat comes from the bearing balls agitating the grease as they roll. If the hub is packed absolutely solid, the extra grease will actually insulate the bearings and allow them to keep building heat until failure.

At low speeds you won't build heat in the hubs quickly enough to be a problem. Plus, if you're doing it right, the hubs will be submerged in mud the whole time, giving extra cooling. :icon_hornsup:

But there is one thing you will need to consider. You need a purge valve. Otherwise you'll blow the seal out.

Well, to get to the grease fitting I need to remove the tire so the hub is pretty much off already. My thought is that the grease will be able to purge easily enough through the bearing. How well this will work to get grease to the inner bearing I dont know.

Started today by replacing the fuel line from the fuel filter to the fuel rail.

One more line to run tomorrow and then I guess I can start on something else.

if you run the grease fitting you should make a grease gun adapter cup that will seal over the spindle snout that you can force grease into the spindle bearings with.in my experiences those get contaminated faster than the wheel bearings. i'm going to make one here at some point so i don't have to pull the spindles to do it.

i think you shoud start on making that beast RUN again! .. the hole Flintstones age thing was cool, but tryin to push some 35s... just isn't gonna happen.

Agreed. Especially when you start getting some flex, its tuff to touch the ground, Ive been there before.

Flex? Hell its hard enough getting in and out as is, never mind when its parked off camber on a snow bank. Update in a few hours. About to start on adding lights to my bumper.

Got another flairing tool under warranty at Advanced Auto and finished the brake lines.

And I found a nice little surprise in my parts pile. Some almost new brake pads, just needed to be hit with the sander to clean them up a little.

Then it was time for wheel bearings.

I like the last one because it just looks like the light will be more protected. Closer to the center of the truck but not to close that the lights are useless.
