Lifting A '96 Extended XL 4X4

After hopping on eBay to find a cheap set of pucks and shackes for a mild lift, every set of pucks I find specifically say that they will not work with x-tended cabs or XL models. Is there a reason behind this? Has anyone had luck with pucks on a similar model? I know that there are so many different threads on suspension, but I haven't seen anything regarding a pre-'98 4WD extended cab XL model. I would even be willing to do coils. I have a set of lift shackles now for it and the rear end of the truck already seems about 2" higher than the front. I'm just looking for something for the front to level it out. I've seen 3" coils that supposedly will fit my truck, but aside from shocks, what would I need to run these? I was a Jeep guy for years so this is all new to me. Thanks!

The pucks will work on any pre 98 Ranger. When buying coils beware the the super cab will sit an inch or so lower than the advertised lift amount due to the extra weight.

@Brinker88 - I'm sorry if this has been covered before. On the Jeep forums, I hated seeing the same questions over and over. After some searching on this and other Ranger forums, I didn't come up with any answers for 1) why would pucks be listed as not being compatible with an XL or extended cab and 2) would "2WD springs" fit work for a 4WD application. Are they the same buckets? If I missed something, I'm sorry for the same old questions and thanks for the searching tip. :icon_cheers:

@PlumCrazy - If I will lose an inch, would 3" coils be a good pair for a shackle lift and springs that already sit about a couple inches than the front as is? I like the look of a level truck. I wouldn't want the front to sit higher than the rear. Also, because of the additional compression, would I be able to run stock shocks? Stock control arms? I realize I really need to crawl under this rig so I can fully understand this suspension thats all new to me. Thanks for bearing with me and the noob questions.

If you're interested, I have a set of 2.5" leveling coils for sale.

With 2" shackles in the back, wouldn't that only give me approx. 1.5" of lift in the front? Any pics of them on your rig? Would I need to make any other mods when I throw them in? How much are you looking for for them? What size tire did you run with them on? From a quick search, I'm guessing 31s or 32s? Thanks! :D

Yea dude, look through my build thread. It's on the first page. I'll take $75 shipped for them.

You were running 33s on your rig, which seems to be identical to mine, without fender trimming with these coils? I'm guessing you left the body lift on it though. What were you running in the rear? As for the camber adjustment, would I need this without the body lift and only the leveling coils? Sorry for all the questions. :-/

You could run 31's comfortably with the coils and a set of shackles for the rear.

Just grab a set of 3 degree camber bushings and install them yourself (set at the max 3 degrees)

All I would need for the install would be MOOG Part # K8982?

If that's a 3 degree camber bushing, yes. I used Stemph part # EX3.

brinker, I like your technique of branding him, followed by trying to sell him something, followed by having him look at your build thread. lol, kidding of course.

but for the record, I wouldn't just throw 3degree bushings in there without seeing which ones you need for sure (it wouldn't be easy getting caster and camber right on the money, but you could probably make it work), or get the two piece ones that adjust to any degree. and id get an allignment after you put them in aswell because they will affect caster camber and toe.

Lol it is what it is.

And yea, the 3 degree bushings are what worked for me. Caster was w/ing specs but camber was still out slightly.
