Lifted 4 Door Crew Cab Ranger Build



I've been reading your explorer build thread, and a few others, and I'm pretty sure it's the route I want to go. My Contour only gets 22 on my commute, and I'm pretty sure a 4BT will get at least that, and still be able to haul a small trailer/dolly with another Ranger on it.
 
Nothing got done on Sunday, because it was my birthday, and my brother and a couple friends went to Eastern WA to. W.E.R.O.C.K event.

I still have tomorrow, so I'm going to try and get the rear door welded together. Or at least tacked so it holds it shape better.
I'm still keeping my eyes out for a cheap ext. cab

For rear windows you can probably make rear crew cab windows from the 90s work.. I use to have custom windows made for my 49 pickup nd its like 65$...ive broken two this is how i know haha
 
check into getting recycled parts from mexico… as the four door rangers have been available south of the border sense forever.. also you might be able to import a range rover/current ranger diesel engine along with the body parts you need. why re-invent the wheel when you can buy one…unless you enjoy the challenge…

I thought about cutting windows, but you can't cut tempered glass, it just shatters.

As for importing parts from a crew cab, alot of it actually is that I want the challenge that I want. Also, somewhat looked into getting a cab and/or parts imported, but figured it would be kind of a hassle and expensive (I guess it's not like what I'm doing easy and cheap :icon_confused: )

I'm starting to lean towards using Suicide door hinges, in the front of the door, instead of Ranger hinges like I had planned. The front lip of the door swings inward more than I pictured it would, as the door opens, and will hit the pillar, and I think suicide hinges will solve that, because a better way isn't coming to mind at the moment.

I got front door jams from the wrecking yard, to form the front of the rear door jams. The guy at the counters response when I asked a price was "I've sold A LOT of shit, but I've never sold one of those". I had to laugh.
Some people have a hard time understanding how I plan to do the rear jam, so this should somewhat explain it, even though it has a lot of trimming left to be done. You won't see any of the pillar from the outside other than from the body line up, like a 90's F250 would have.

And, why I didn't get much done this weekend:
One of my Rangers doin' work! In the bed is junk 2.9/and tranny, complete torn apart 2.3T, engine hoist, random scrap metal, and 8 Mazda wheels and tires.
Me and my cousin moved out of the house we were in, so that kept me busy all weekend.

If anybody near me needs a set of 14" Mazda b2300 wheels with basically brand new studed tires, I have some cheap.

I got a little bit done today, by getting the rear door partially welded together.
Tomorrow I plan to finish welding the door, and try my hand at shaving the door handle and lock hole at the front of the back door.

Here's the sleeve for the door skin.

The back needs to be welded, and the seam all the way down the front needs to be welded as well.

What didn't take a picture of, is I was having trouble getting the two skins to meet up and form a straight skin (the wanted to "v" in, at the seam). So went and got 2 pieces of 3/4" box tube, and made two supports which not only keep the door straight, but add a bit of rigidity to the door. That's what the 2 rows of spot welds are, running the length of the door.

Your def re-defining the 4 door ranger idea. And I think you have the cleanest ideas yet. The best part is your recycling parts from another truck instead of making them from scratch. Cant wait to see more progress!

I saw another thread, and they were basically building and fabricating a whole door. That project seems to have died.
My point of view is use parts that you know will work together, hence why I'm mirroring the back of a door for the front edge, and mirroring the rear of the jam to the front as well. There should be no doubt that it will seal without wind noise, and it will weld to the rocker and floor exactly like Ford did. Seems like a no brainer to me.

My only real issue with the door, will be making the top edge straight, for the window. Right now it dips down in the middle because of the roof curve. I'm pretty sure I can get it straighter out though, because its really only the outer skin, and pinch weld that need to be straighter.
