Ok, this is a 'project' that someone did a DIY 4" body lift on, before I got it...

In the process, they goofed up the transmission linkage (or just didn't adjust it right).... So none of the positions on the shifter do what they're supposed to do... If you push it 'hard' forward, then you get park... If you throw it all the way back from park, you get 1st. In between, or just shifting 'normally'? Nothing.

Also, if you put the trans in neutral, it stays there unless you shift to park and then pull hard-back to get into 1st.

How do I fix this?

underneath on the shifter mechanism, if it is still stock, is an adjusting bolt on a rod clamp. loosen the bolt, put shifter in "D" and move transmission lever to same position. tighter bolt,

pictures would help better.

OTOH, the adjustment rod may not be long enough, so you might want to get an aftermarket shifter, or figure out how to lengthen the rod

I have pictures of the stock assy I could send you and show you where the adjustment is. It's underneath next to the lever that is on the bottom side of the shifter. I'd attach pics but I'm not able to do so. I can also send you the info from my chilton's on proper asjustment if you'd like.

im not saying take it off because it causing problems with the tranny im saying take it off becase a homemade 4" bodylift is way too tall ur going to stop and the cab is going to continue forwards then fall about 4" onto the frame

OK...

Given what I've read, I do intend to take it off eventually...

I don't intend to off-road with the truck, and IIRC, lifting reduces gas milage...

but for now, I just want to make the shifter work...

does anyone have a pic of the linkage rod - is it just threaded on the end (so a piece of threaded rod could replace it) or are significant modifications going to be needed?

I will add under-truck pictures later today...
