Lift pump to high pressure in tank setup

That sure sounds like a pretty bad idea...

I wouldn't do it. Nothing in that fuel system is designed for double the fuel pressure.

I thought so...

I saw elsewhere on the internet someone recommend that walbro pump for a bronco II. I know they usually make decent pumps as well but after looking at the specs I had to question it. Thanks for affirming what I was feeling.

The Kemso I used is supposed to be the same as the WalBro...

AFAIK, I haven't had a problem with the fuel pump outside the sending unit being kinda weird. (I have other problems still...) I suspect it's intentional but not sure why. Full is accurate. Gauge is down to about an 1/8 at 1/2 tank actual. It doesn't actually hit E till it's out though.

Alright, had to take a break from this old truck for a little bit, back at it today....

Let the fun begin! Tomorrow or if not, the weekend I will crack this beast open and see what treasures the fuel tank has in store for me.

I was able to put a Walbro 255 in my 88 tank hanger without any issue. I had to swap the pigtail since the Walbro uses the newer Mustang style connector. I just removed the original high pressure on the frame and replaced it with a tube from the Dorman help section. I left the little surge reservoir in place for now. Eventually Id like to remove it and move the filter further back like the 93+ trucks where its easier to get to and not in way getting to oil filter.

I have used a bunch of those Kemso pumps without any failures so far. A pump for an '89 fits in the '86-88 sending unit perfectly and some 85's as well - EFI trucks anyway.

Kemso is fine for first gen 2.9. I generally like the pump.

Pump is good.

Edit: mine failed like three days after I posted this.

Way to go, pump 🙄

I ended up buying a walbro and RA has a spectra brand sending unit on close out for 30 bucks. The parts are due in mid next week. I got the fuel lines so this weekend I'm gonna start with those and cracking the lock ring off and seeing how bad the inside of the tank is. Outside looks good so hoping the inside of it will be okay at least.

Got the tank cracked open and the old sending unit out, overall the tank is in great shape and the old sending unit isn't as yellow as I expected or, however the sock was barley attached to the pump, as in there was an area where any sediment could have been sucked into the pump. Picture doesn't show it but it's ripped at the bottom.

Got the new pump adapted to the new sending unit and will move onto the lines next weekend. Just had to cut a small piece off.

That is one clean tank.

I did the same thing, and now when I get below a quarter tank on the gauge I have long start times. Maybe unrelated but something to keep in mind.

I still need to run new plumbing before priming and trying to start it. But I do notice the fuel gauge at least for now is sitting at 1/4. Looks like I have half a tank visually. Will see what happens when I fill it after I get it running
