I got my engine bolted in last night with some plates that we made out of 1/2 steel. It is lined up and centered betweent the fenders and has the transmision on it also. When we put a level on the top of the intake manifold (Edlebrock Performer) it shows that the engine is level. However the valve covers and motor mounts show that the engine is sitting a little lower in the back which is how it looks when you sand back and eye ball it. Is is suposed to sit low in the back? This makes no sense to me.

Also has anyone used the headers from L&L. I tried to put the stock one in place just to check for clearances and the driverside did not clear the stearing collumn.

I wouldn't worry about it until you get your tranny bolted in. Only then, will you see what needs adjustment.

Also, did you put the level on the lower part of the intake manifold(as in, not have the upper bolted to it yet?)

It's going to be close to the steering column. I had to grind the corners off the tabs on the steering shaft, but it should fit. I haven't used L&L headers, though.

The tranny is bolted in. The level was up on top of the flange where the carb bolts on.

The top of the carb mount surface should be level. If you look close at the mounting pad, the front is shorter than the back. There should be about a 4 1/2 deg slope to the back of the engine. Those are right from the Ranger shop manual, been like that forever! The angle has more to do with proper driveline alignment than anything else. Still not convinced the motor is actually centered either, tailhousing of trans should be a straight line (more or less) to the pinion yoke.

I've heard that it should be around 3 or 4 degrees but i did'nt know if the guy that told me that knew what he was talking about but i guess he did. I put on the bell housing and slid the transmision in. The back of the tranny is mounted into the tranny crossmember in the stock slots.
