I did this just to move it one time. I have a dodge 2500 cummins, and a 79 f150 with a modded 400 and a C6 that I normally would use.

Nah, man. That's a small trailer. I love the Ranger with the goose-plate in it.

here she sits , just put the canopy on , the grill and headlight rims are getting painted white to match. roof rack and basket getting ready to mount.ready for camping this summer in the great northwest

That looks like "just add gas and hills fun"!

Well, 1) it wouldn't have the space or the comfort of the bigger camper, and 2) that jeep isn't too light. I seriously doubt the 4.0L would be able to haul both the camper and the Jeep in the mountains and still keep up with traffic. As it is, the HEMI is an admirable companion in such a situation, and I wouldn't really wish for anything less.

My Ranger is a great little truck, and I work it hard at times, but a heavy hauler it is not.

I agree... a 1/4 ton truck has no reason to be hauling that much. :icon_thumby:

A Ranger isn't a 1/4-ton truck. Those designations--1/4. 1/2, 3/4 etc have no meaning.

Using this reference: http://media.ford.com/images/10031/2011_Ranger_Specs.pdf

A 4.0 Ranger has a 1,500# payload--the shortbed version of that slide-in weighs 750#. Lots of capacity to spare.

The maximum trailer weight is 5,500# or so. Take off the 750# and you have 4,500# and more to tow with. A trailer that could fit a Jeep can weigh well under 1,000#--or better yet, flat tow it.

The question is--what Jeep do you have? An old Jeep doesn't weigh very much. A newer Jeep should just be pulling a travel trailer. A Jeep you need to tow wouldn't weigh 3,000#.

You discount the Ranger. You need to set it up right, but it will do the job. My 20,000# school bus camper cruises at 73mph with 185hp. The weakest 4.0 makes 155hp and will have no trouble with the load indicated. I have a crewcab turbodiesel pickup I use to pull a tri-axle goose, and a van with a Powerstroke. I know about towing stuff.

For me the problem is I don't like showing up with too much. Right now the biggest things I have to haul are a 3,300# ASV RC30 track loader and a 1,700# Toro Groundsmaster 345. Since I sold my dozer, I feel stupid hauling these little machines on this huge trailer. But the mower deck is too wide to go on a fender trailer. I could set up a Ranger to tow either of these. I don't want to maintain the larger equipment. A little slide-in and a Jeep--yes, I can easily build a 4.0 Ranger to do that. And it could haul my little trackloader and Toro mower as well.
