I'll be pulling out my 4.6 at the junk yard tomorrow. I've been reading about some of the swaps and see a few 4.6 but I'm still worrying about the electronics and how it all will connect. I sure could use an encouraging word here. No one seems to mention this part of the swap which either means it was not to bad or they didn't want to talk about it. I'm pulling the motor from a 2004 CV police car, w/ trans. I'm also going to take the steering colum, radiator, drive shaft and exhaust. Can you tell me something about the key system?. I'll post some pic's of the pull.
ASK, SEEK, KNOCK

PATS, I would run away,,, I hate it,, my 99 mustang was nothing but trouble.
Bottom line: make damn sure you have the keys that match the ECM

It's not normally done cause the motor is SO FRIGGIN WIDE ! A 460 is an easier fit.

If you have the skill to do this swap or have someone helping you do it that has the skill then go for it. :icon_welder: I myself am not a big fan of the 4.6l engine but I do like that it is a very smooth running engine. Dont let other people thoughts and words stop you from doing your swap just go for it. The only swap that you will catch alot of crap over is if you had chose to do a NUTSWINGER GM LS swap. Then you deserve all the crap you will get from it. :icon_rofl:

Here is a website that has some info and a wiring harness that will help you with this swap.

The 4.6 is a tad wider, but the 460 is longer... length with a 302 is usually the getcha so I don't dunno which would be worse.

The 4V (wider yet) in GregR's didn't look like it fit too bad, the 98+ trucks have a lot more room to play with than the TIB/TTB trucks.

I’m doing the almost the same swap 03 Crown Victoria 4.6 into a 97 Ford Explorer sport. I was just curious how yours turned out?

I hate this guys threads about this swap. Every time one pops up I see he is close to me and I'm like "YES, I wanna go help!"

Then I see how long ago this was started and I get all disappointed because its been done for years.

I'm game. Where abouts are you?

I play with the idea of a 5.0 on my own truck. I'd rather help do it to someone else's first.
