Hello all,

You can replace almost all your regular bulbs with LED, I did all of mine except the headlights and the two Turn signal indicator on the dash, did that to keep the flasher working.

I took apart everything in the truck, A/C, shifter, gauges etc. Then all the outside lights, including backup.

Never worry about a burnout and you can leave your parking lights on and still start the truck.

Ask any questions you need.

I bought them at www.superbrightleds.com/

I'll add one thing to this. if you have the Gen III dashboard there is a bluish film on the back of the gages, almost like a cyan color actually. since the normal incandescents glowed a yellowish it ended up showing through as green. So you'd need the amber LED's for your board to light up green.

2nd note, the smaller LED's like for turn signals are ok and a few otherones (I'll have to check on which again). I'd just leave the rest as regular bulbs though. the truck still sends a tiny amount of current through them, since the LED's require so little to run, many have a faint glow., kind of annoying at night.

Dashboard LED"S

True on the film, but I do not have any problem with the LED's I have, all are nice and bright for the safety of my Ranger.

Safety of brightness was a concern, but since I did this change over with that in mind, I found that the ones I bought are just fine.
The color of my gauges is just fine I think, they did not seem to change color.

I've though about LEDs before. But its a lot of work to tear apart the dash to get to all the bulbs. Maybe when one the cluster bulbs burnout, I'll convert then. As for my outside marker lights, they need to be the old fashion. LEDs probably do not produce enough heat or infrared to melt ice off after a freezing rain storm.

LED's and Ice

Do the side lights really need to worry about ice??

I am in Tucson, we get a bit of snow, but the Ranger has never let me down with any of the LED's on my 88 Ranger Super 4X4.
The dash was not to bad for me, I got good at it because of a speedo problem.

Yes, freezing rain can be a pain. Its either the truck starts as a gaint ice cube in the morning or I get stuck inside the gaint ice cube from driving in it. And usually when it does freeze rain, its in inches. And having the lights de-ice themselves is one less thing I need to chisel free to be safe on the roads.

sounds like someone attempting to promote their product.

If you retrofit an electronic flasher unit in place of an electro-mechanical one
you don't need to keep any actual bulbs in the flasher circuit.

LEDs have a few advantages
Either more light for the same power consumption
or less power consumption for the same light.

That plus better shock resistance, I've personally blown all four
taillight filaments by hitting a really NASTY bump when the bulbs
were lit.

What bothers me about most of the LED replacement units
is that few are oriented to take best advantage of the built-in
reflector in the taillight housing.

As for the heat from the bulbs melting the ice off?
Except on headlamps (or Fog/Driving lamps) I've never seen
a light clear itself of ice.

I am planning on retrofitting LED's into my truck... for my interior lamps

Mostly as measure to reduce power consumption.
I have a total of 11 bulbs inside the cab and having
them all on at once... particularly in cold weather...
can drag the battery down.

As for instrument bulbs? for the illumination? yes if I can make the
instrument panel brighter (it's sometimes difficult to read the odometer
even at "full bright") but for indicator bulbs? No.
I replaced my indicator bulbs last summer and doubt I'll need
to replace them again in less than 7-8years.

can i put led's in my 83 to light up the speedo and other gauges?

sure can! I believe those are all #194's, and don't have any filters, so whatever color you choose is the new color of your gages.

I have one of these in my Ranger because trailer lights made my turn signals flash stupid fast and I didn't like it, so I bought an electronic flasher.
