ok i bought an LED tailgate bar for my truck. it has parking, turn, brake and reverse lights. i have purchased the trailor plug that T's into the factory light plug.

i have a tester that plugs in to the trailor plug and everything works fine on it. but when i plug in the light bar, when i turn the parking lights on the light bar lights up as if the brakes are on, and when i hit the brake with the lights on it doesn't change. same with the signals. if the lights are off, i have brake and signals. what could be the issue?

Check the ground, sounds like the lights are finding ground through the running light circuit. Test each circuit of your adapter...

ok how since it's plug and play? i was thinking that the bar needed a ground and the truck may use a pos. ground?

Even though its plug n play, you still may have a bad ground through the adapter, which is why I suggest testing each circuit after you install the adapter...

I'm betting the problem is in the light bar. Try plugging it into someone else's trailer connector.

ok tell me if i'm reading this right.....the brown wire is parking only and light green/orange is stop and turn and orange/light blue is right side stop and turn. right? if this is so then the plug is wired wrong for the bar. see the other way the brown is used for parking and brake

in the pic it's saying the left and right signal should be brake light....the plug and play uses the parking light as the brake light. i think that's the issue. with the test light plugged into the brown wire, it lights up for the parking lights and when i hit the brake. not the turn signals

Brown is park only. On the lightbar, there is a resistor on the Brown wire, allowing x amount of voltage to the leds, allowing partial illumination. The yellow and green wires allow full voltage to the LEDs, allowing full illumination. Yellow and green are sent a pulsed voltage via flasher, to signal left and right turns, for brake application a constant voltage is applied to both yellow and green wires...

i get that...but why does the brown wire on my truck light when i hit the brake?

It's possible you either have the wrong connector/adapter, or you possibly have a short in the harness/switch. Does it still do the same with the adapter not installed?

at first i bought a adapter from autozone that spliced in and it done the same thing. i'm still thinking it has to do with a ground or the brake
