I got an amp and sub from my buddy that ive been running for a few weeks now, the auto on doesnt work on the amp and drains my battery. I need to install a switch for it and want to put an led in the dash so i know when its on so i dont forget to turn it off. Can i put in a toggle switch and just wire and led from the amp power line at the switch and then to a ground? The amp has a 20A fuse, will a small led handle the current?
Havent been to the store yet to see what they have.
Thanks

The led will be wired in parralle with the amp, but the amp should turn off with the radio

Your amp is powered up with no power on the remote terminal?

I guess that's possible... Are you sure it's wired right?

It should turn on an off with the radio, but it doesnt. My buddy had the same problem when it was in his jeep. He had a switch wired into the power line to turn it on and off. Its the amp, ive wired it the way the amp kit said to and checked with a local audio shop. The amp is simply defective. But since my buddy bought it from his buddy before he gave it to me i cant return it or anything, i just need to wire a kill switch and ill be fine.

So you wanna put a switch in the remote turn-on wire, or the power cable?

In it, no. From it, yeah.

Btw how are you gunna achieve this? You must have a small amp with a little wire...

Why not put in a relay that is switched by the accessory wire?

Seriously... Why not just do it right, and buy a new amp? A little amp that runs on a 4g cable can't be that expensive.

What speaker set-up are you running? Surely you can find a replacement amp, for a good price. And sell that one off...

I'm just not a fan of rigging stuff.

I have a switch and led in my Ex, actually a flush mounted small round rocker with a built-in led. But it's in the remote wire, my 2g from the battery has nothing but a fuse in it. I installed my switch, not to rig it to work, but rather to shut my sub off when the baby is in the truck.

Ideally id buy a new amp but im starting school this week and my tuition tapped me out so i dont have much money right now. I got an alpine type E 10" running on a 500W amp.
I agree rigging things isnt the best idea but its all i can afford at the moment.

Take a look at partsexpress.com or soniceletronix.com for really cheap but good amps.

I've had really good luck with the factory refurbished Power Acoustik amps, purchased from eBay.

I also got a smokin deal on the Fosgate stuff in my EX. I have $180 in all of it, sub amp and wiring.

Just finished, went To the store and picked up a heavy duty toggle switch. Took 10 min to wire it in and get it set. $10 for a switch is doable for me right now, $180 for an amp isnt.. Didnt bother with an led or anything like that, felt lazy today lol

Just FYI, you WILL leave that switch on and run down the battery.

If you go to a wrecking yard you can pick up a 12volt 20 to 40amp relay and socket for..??..well under $10 in any case, new they are under $15, and on ebay you can get 5 12volt/30amp relays and sockets for $8.

The relay is exactly the same wiring as the switch, you just never have to remember to turn it on or off.
so no dead battery
