A legend to the old man, a hero to the child...
For all you married fellas (or gals)....take your ring off and keep it in the truck when you go to the junkyard.

I went to toledo today to get a bumper for my B2 since mine is....trashed. Of course it wasnt pulled yet and while me and the yard guy were back there walking through hip high weeds and brush to find the B2 they had my ring slipped off my finger and didnt realize it untill we were halfway back to the shop.

Luckly after he went and literally dug the B2 out with a forklift to bring it up he let me go back by myself and search...after about 1\2 hr i found it basically by luck. Laying next to a 1st gen ranger.

I should get it resized because im down probably 40lbs since i got married...but its usually fine...but i think the rain and wet brush i was moving around got my finger wet enough for it to just slip off.

haven't worn mime for years because of arthritis. that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
what yard did you hit?

Divorce took care of that problem. Next time you lose it, let me know. I'll send you mine.

Scored a pretty nice bumper for 50 bucks. According to carpart.com (where i found it) they were by far the cheapest

Married 17 years and I’ve never worn a ring a day in my life.

Dad never wore his wedding band except for dress up occasions. He was too worried about losing or damaging it while he was working and he pretty much has never gone anywhere other than work by himself, if he leaves the property, it’s usually with mom.

I don’t have a wedding band to worry about yet. I’d be inclined to get either a silicone or one of those indestructible ones for daily wear.

she just keeps my nuts in her purse......no worries about lost rings.

My dad was the same. In the 40 years I had with him, I never saw him wear his wedding band. He knew exactly where it was, but never wore it. Most of that time he was involved in some sort of mainteance so the potential risks of wearing jewelry was too great. IIRC he used to tell me a story about shorting a battery once, it was before I was born and that was the last time he work it working. Mom prefered that he not wear it over the potential of getting hurt. Better for it to stay safely tucked away than get lost from going on and off all the time. When he was working he was the same with where and who he spent time. Either at work, the hunting club, or home with mom. Aside from those places, the gas station, and auto parts store (maybe the gun shop), he rarely went any place without her. I recall him going on exactly two trips alone. One was work related training trip somewhere out west and mom flew out to meet him for the last part of it. The other was to visit with family out of state when his uncle died, I'd never met that part of the family, mom couldn't get away from work, and my sister was still in grade school IIRC.

I'm in the same boat as you are. No wedding band to worry about. I have moved into a job that I can actually wear it though if I ever get to have one. That said, I still feel weird trying to wear my class or Eagle Scout rings, so might be difficult to get used to that one as well.

My only thought is if you really want to keep it on you doing that type of work, is maybe get a chain to wear it around your neck. Still might be iffy doing mechanical work, but it would not be as big of a risk as being on the finger and less likely for it to slip off and get lost.

I keep mine on for most things but after 8 years it's got quite a groove... I do have one of the tungsten carbide ones so as long as I don't catch it on something and deglove the finger or short it out (that's right hand stuff, left usually stays clear) I should be fine... doesn't mean I don't think about it, should get a pack of the silicone versions, they're apparently tougher than I assumed...

Never wear rings of any kind when working. Great way to lose a finger.

Had the first wedding ring melted down and burned along with that gawd awful marriage.

I've lost my loving wife of 6 years to cancer but still wear that wedding ring (when not working) for all the good memories.

Whelp.. your the complete opposite of my father.

My parents were married right around 25 years before they divorced, and Pa needed to have his ring CUT OFF 3 times during that time because his fingers slowly turned from mere digits into full blown bratwursts lol.

Edit* not even kidding. It's now been 18 years since I've seen my old man's mitts.. but I'll NEVER forget thinking about how just a few of those sausages he claimed to be fingers could've fed all the hungry children in Bavaria for a solid month at least.

When I was starting electrical work. I saw a guy tightening the lugs on a 8D AGM battery and touch his wedding ring on the aluminum floor. It shorted and almost instantly melted off. The burn was nasty.

Me and Corey have been together since 98. We have technically never tied the old knot. So no ring nesasary.
