Leaking fuel neck: Can't remove bed!

The fuel neck filler is rusted out and the hanger that holds it in place as well. I can smell fuel pretty strongly when standing next to or sitting in the truck. Only problem is, the previous owner welded the bed in place because the bed mounting bolts had rusted out and or seized up.
Since I can't lift the bed to get to the tank, I don't know what to do. Does anyone have any suggestions?:icon_surprised:

I was able to replace the filler neck on my 2000 step side without lifting the bed. the part that attaches to the fender, then goes to the rubber hose at the tank.

Thanks.
Sorry, I wasn't thinking clearly when I wrote that post last night.
My concern is, what if it's leaking on the tank end as well? I used JB weld all over the filler neck this morning. After it sets, I'll check again for fuel leakage. If that solves it, I'll order a replacement neck and swap it out right. If it doesn't.....how the heck do I get to the top of the tank?:shok:

Mine was cracked badly at the tank end. There is a way to drop the tank. But I haven't done it. I think ot is recommendedvto get most if the fuel out furst.

The official way it to lower the tank, but raising the bed it easier (done it a couple of times). Yes, drain the fuel out. One time I disconnected the fuel filter, pulled the relay out from under the hood, put a hose and can attached to the fuel line, turned the IGN to run, and hot wired the relay plug contacts using the fuel pump to drain the tank. There are metal straps, electrical connectors, maybe 3 hoses on top to deal with. So, don't let the tank just fall down and dangle.

Dinkus welding the bed on... depending on how aggressively it's welded on, you may be able to get it cut free.

I did a fuel filler neck on my dad's 2000, I think we took the back tire off and did it through the wheel opening. I know we didn't lift the bed or drop the tank. Wasn't fun or easy, but it was doable.

Thanks everybody! JB weld seems to have done the trick so I'm fairly certain the leak is only on the filler neck. I'll order a new one and start replacing it. Through the wheel well sounds like a good plan. Thanks for the input!

Compare the length before you set it in place, I didn't, and had to remove, and trim the new one. B

Simple tech is best
"Since 1971, all U.S. vehicles have had fully sealed fuel systems that do not vent directly to the atmosphere"

If you think you have a leak in the gas tank, or you get EVAP code
Get short hose, a wet rag and a helper with good lungs :)

Remove gas cap
Put hose into opening
Seal around hose and opening with wet rag
Blow into the hose
Listen for where the air is escaping

Simple tech
Any gas tank since 1971 should be air tight

DO NOT use an air compressor for this, you WILL BLOW OFF HOSES, and if you didn't have a leak you will now :)
Lungs can generate about 2psi, good lungs, lol.
Which won't hurt anything
