Leaking Brake Reservoir

For the last few days, the P-Brake/Rear antilock lights have been going off. I checked and it seemed my brake reservoir was low. I topped it off and thought that was the end of it. It's been about 5 days since then, and the lights are back on. I took a closer look, and the piping under the reservoir is soaked in brake fluid, and there is a small puddle of it under my truck, behind the front left wheel. Now I'm not 100% sure if it's the reservoir or not, but I will replace it within the next few days. Is there anything else I should check though, just to be sure? Really want to be sure that'll fix the problem, you know, being the thing that keeps me from slamming into other cars and all :icon_twisted:.

I also noticed what looks like signs of leakage on my vacuum lines too o_O.

Just put a NEW master cylinder on it and be done with it. They run less than $50. The new ones come with the reservoir. The booster is vacuum operated so it's not that.

How difficult is this repair? Never really worked with brakes before and the tech section doesn't mention anything about it. Might just have a shop do it for me.
 
It's not hard. More time-consuming than hard.

If your pedal is holding good pressure and not sinking down, I'd just get a reservoir.
 
i would try the o-rings first. my yota did that and i bought a master where u use the stock resi. still did it, so i went and bought an o-ring kit from harbor frieght with various sizes. matched em up and voila fixed for 5 bux
 
yep......change the o-rings first....buy o-rings that are compatible with BRAKE FLUID.....see if that cures the problem....

PB-Blaster advertises on the can, if you read it, that it will rejuvinate rubber "O" rings like new, again

So, on several vehicles that were leaking brake fluid, before

I thought, I'd try it and squirted in several squirts of PB-Blaster in the master brake cylinder reservoir and it stopped it from leaking anymore brake fluid

It has worked on the vehicles that I have used it on

Being you're having the same problem as I had, before

I'm sharing this information, from my experience, in solving this problem, as it worked for me, on the vehicles that I've tried it on

Well the pedal is holding good pressure. I can still brake normally as long as i keep the reservoir topped, and applying pressure to the brake doesn't seem to affect the rate at which it leaks. The PB Blaster thing sounds like a good plan, but I think I'll give the O-ring idea a try, just to be on the safe side.

would this be what I'm looking for? It says it's resistance to chemicals and fluids, but just want to double check.

best thing to do is take a wheel off, put a small aquarium hose on the bleeder screw and keep pumping until the fluid goes out of the resivoir. theres one or two bolts or nuts to take off and the resi comes off. ive never taken a rangers resi off but it varies as to where your o rings will be, there could be one on the bolt bolting it on and one at the bottom of the resi. ull see when u get it all apart.
 
Before swappning anything I would check your RABS sensor. Its right behind the front beam on the frame and its the most common thing to go bad in our brakes from what I understand. Theres a post here somewhere about a guy who rebuilt his for a couple bux and it eliminated the problem your having.
