Good Day Team!

Went out to my truck today, which is an '88 Ranger, and had some water on my driver's side rubber floor mat. I went to search this forum and as usual, found some possible answers. After inspecting the truck, the cowl vents look very clean and rust free. It is a California truck and never did see much bad weather. However, it does look like there is some corrosion on the VIN plate on the bottom edge of the drivers window.

My conclusion is the window seal has failed after 22 years of faithful service since it had water on the top on my rubber mats and had not dripped down the firewall to wet the carpet. Can hardly blame it.

What do you guys think? Any other experiences like this?

Thank you in advance,

Justin

I've got the same exact problem. I've found my problem along the seamsealer where the panels meet behind the firewall on the driverside. If you searched, I'm sure you saw plenty about the seam sealed areas rusting out...its my problem and why I have the same issue as you...

What I would do is run water directly into the cowl and check for leaks in the cab, under the dash on the driverside. I found mine around the area where the emergency brake assy is.

Another way to get a decent look is to pull the inspection plates in the engine bay along the firewall. It's not much but getting a flashlight in there can help show you whats going on.

I hope you dont have rust man...I'm nervous about mine and hoping to repair it soon!

Leek On Drivers Side

I have water coming in somewhere near the fire wall on the drivers side. It seems to be behind the emergency brake assembly. I poured some water near the bottom corner of the window and I noticed that it runs down the inside of the door where the hinges are. Also I took off the inspection plate and noticed that the water flows down to a drain on the right to the fender. This drain hole is not plugged but some water seems to divert and run down a seem below the inspection plate in the engine compartment. I found a plastic bag that has insulation in it near this seem and the water was running on to this bag. What should I do? Do I need to take the front fender off and the door so I can see where it is coming in from. I will start by taking the emergency brake assembly off.

I would say that if you don't find anything with the assy or the plastic behind it (kick panel) then yeah, I would pull the fender. You are leaking exactly where I am :annoyed:
