Leaf spring conversion, then SAS

How about this if you or anyone else on here has a leaf sprung f250 full width axle that would be willing to trade me for the axle I have, I'd be down lol. If not, Im gonna go through with making this one leaf sprung. I bought the axle for 150 it came with radius arms, 6 inch lift springs, a custom crossmember set up for use on a bronco 2, then sold everything except the axle and radius arms for 175, so I might as well use it, it was practically free. And I traded the radius arms for the ruff stuff hangers for front leaf springs. All I have to do is make a front crossmember, grind the wedges off the axle and weld on the perches, and get the hangers on. All I have left to buy is a passenger side chevy high steer knuckle and leaf springs which Tbmitchell has already helped me out on that. And Ill be looking for a 94 or 95 ranger to do the swap on so I wont have to worry about the steering box

Hey its This Man Truck If That What He Wants Let Him Do It Were All Hear To Help Each other Out With What They Want Not What We Think They Should Do. And You Dont Half To Buy The Chevy Knuckle If You Got A Local Machine Shop Take It To Them And Have Them mill Your And Tap It That What I Did But I Have Access To A Mill But A Local Guy Here Said He Would Have Done Mine For 45 But Its What You Wish To Do

Yea You Can Use Spacer I Used Some Washer From TSC Just Put Even Amount On Each Side I Think Mine Might HAve Been 3 Cause I Had To Use Spacers

you can use whatever you want...i used shit i had laying around which was 4 in box and 1/2 in spacers to fit the 2.5 springs. dont know where you are located, but if your now considering a ttb chassis you really fawked yourself selling all the coil stuff:sad:

if your stuck on leafs still....
the hi steer knuckle is ideal, make sure you have the right tapers. you can use the ranger long link on the ttb to go from the pit to the histeer arm, but a modded k truck link works too and is straight and likely not to flex and distort due to bends in the ranger link.

i put more of these under chevy trucks then rangers:D
:dunno:

but you should really really consider coils with a ttb chassis.

bobbywalter I do agree it would be easier to start off with a leaf axle but but as of now its going to cost me less to put a couple perches on my axle and call it a day. Im on a tight budget, got laid off recently and Im a student who lives on a slim budget and also have child support lol, so Im going the cheapest way possible

So Travis you say I can get a ford 8 lug dana 44 knuckle reamed for a high steer arm? I wouldn't think there would be enough material on it but then again I havent seen one in a while

working with what you got is always ideal, doing what you want is not always ideal.

advice when asked for is take it or leave it but always hoped to educate and realize and optimize goals and needs

Don't get me wrong Im willing to take all advice thats given, just have to make do with what I got. Also if I kept the coil setup I would have to worry about mounting a trackbar, gusset the fawk out of it, attach coil buckets couple inches forward then have to worry about the frame not being straight on the side where the bucket would mount. Oh and then Id have to worry about getting the tracbar and draglink parallel. Too much for me to take on

I too helped a friend with the steering on his chevy. He used a leaf sprung ford dana 44, but chevy outers

ok. like i stated earlier creative fab can optimize the axle for leaf use.

some axles have the leaf pad on the pumpkin regardless, your saying you have that type of axle? in that case your golden. one perch centered @ 31.5 inches iirc and its awn.

now...if you dont have the pad and simply put the perch right next to the pumpkin you will widen the pad distance which will jank up your spring interference potentials causing other interference issues all around janking up the whole damn thing and limiting all around performance and costing more in the end.

but you can grind and mod the non leaf housing a bit and fab up a custom perch as well, but thats not necessarily easy and the housing take proper technique to weld....usually not cheap and easy.

Hey Did That Link I Sent You Work And i Hope The Picture Help You She Aint Purty But It Does What I Want

i figured as much. theres many ways to simplify those issues.

as a matter of comprimise etc its easier then many do.

regardless, leafs really can be easier with those percieved obstructions in mind.

Travis the truck looks great I can't see a thing i dont like about it. But there arent any detailed pictures of that perch, the leaf spring is in the way. I can look at my friends chevy to see what his looks like since its a ford axle.

Bobby no my axle doesn't have the leaf spring mount already, thats the only speedbump I've come across so far while planning this out. But as far as welding being expensive, if I can't find a decent price, Ill see if one of the teachers in my tech classes could hook me up.

well let me see what i cant come up with tomorrow if i get the darn jetta out of my shop ill drag it in and drop that side down and see if i cant get some better picture for you
