Dana 35 TTB Converted to Chevy 6 on 5.5


I'd need at least $6k to get a set of D60's and install new gears and lockers.
So? It’s easy for us to spend other people’s money.



All jokes aside… Based off what you’re going to do with the truck and what bolt pattern you want, I’d look for a new Ranger rear axle with an E-locker.
 
It looks like my only option for a 6-lug 8.8 is the wheel adapters. There's not enough space to drill the stock axle flange to 6x5.5, and not enough space to redrill a rotor, or find one to fit.

I'm not going to build a whole new axle just to have 6-lugs, and I'd rather overhaul mine with new bearings and seals and take my chances with it, then toss it aside.

Doing the Dana 44 hub with the Ford 5x5.5 and redrilling the rear may be a better route. Although redrilling the rear and then redrilling a brake rotor to fit it seems like a lot of work versus using a wheel adapter.
 
I think I have a D60 laying behind my garage. The guy i bought the house from 10 years ago raced Mopars. Ive moved it twice. Almost junked it but was too lazy haha. If you want or need it it's a short 11 hour drive away haha
 
That's gotta be what I was thinking of, Dodge used 5 on 5.5

Ram 1500 didn't go 6 lug until 2019.

Dakota... at least all the second gens were six. I don't know if it is the global 5.5x6 pattern like the rest world minus the F-150 though.

They did similar shenanigans as Ford did robbing half ton axles for compact/midsize trucks.

When you get time can you see what it is? Any axle tags, or spin the wheel flange and watch the yoke and see what ratio is in it.
 
Just a thought but what about a Tacoma rear axle with a factory e-locker in it? That would be Ranger size, pretty strong, light, and would fit your 6 lug need.

If you want to stay cheap then a pair of adapters will work fine. I've been running those on my 8.8 for many years without a single problem. Had the same issue with wheels when I did my SAS and needed 5x5.5 bolt pattern in the rear. Locktite the inner lug nuts on and be careful with torquing the outers and you'll be good.

When the rain stops I will go out and look it over. I've never really looked close at it. All I know is it's heavy and he drag raced Mopars. Think it's a 5 lug with drum brakes.

I'll have to do a little digging. But from the looks of it. It looks like an 8.75 out of early 70s Mopar. It's not supposed to be raining tomorrow afternoon and I'll go out and move stuff so I can roll it over. But with the diff going in the front with no rear access. The 8.75 is the only one I know like that. But don't quote me. I'm far from a expert haha. But it does have drums and 5 lug pattern.
