well this will be a interesting build. i got my 87 4x4 ranger and the engine for some reason smokes like crazy so we decided lets get wild so the plan is to put a 4.0L jeep engine in it and from looking at the engine threads it wont fit with out mods. So that being the case we decided to go all out and put the jeep solid axle in the front of it aswell to solve the crossmember height problem......so here is the start of this im sure on going take forever lalalala build.

what I started with

no engine lift so lets take apart in pieces

engine was rebuilt because there is no ring lip at the top of the cylinder....im sure the ground wire for the injectors and the wrench we found in the intake holding the valves open had something to do with the smoking

I'm told the Jeep 4.0 are a good engine but never thought of putting on in a ranger. Keep the pictures up.

4.0L Straight 6 is a badass engine! I have a 99 Jeep Cherokee with 206,000 miles on it and it still sets you back in the seat as it did when I bought it! Keep this going, I would like to see this done! They run forever and (knock on wood) they dont lay down on you much!:icon_cheers:

Beer, chevy, and ford.

I like your garage.

Interesting build... I've wondered about the jeep 4.0 so this will be a very interesting build :icon_thumby:

Cool project. The 4.0 is a good engine, I have 91 cherokee with over 140k and it still runs strong. Keep up the good work.

they are a sweet motor...im thinking the benefit of the jeep crawl ratio and the ranger bein an awesome truck it should be a killer truck and besides that the 9000lbs superwinch that i got will take me places

Subscribed! I also had two jeep 4.0's that both went well over two hundred thousand miles before other reasons made me get rid of the jeeps. Tough engines to say the least.

I've got 4.0s in my 90 XJ and my 95 ZJ. Good solid motors. What year motor are you putting in?

so anyways ive not been here for a couple days stupid computer crashed on me right before i went to update on the project...so as it stood the other day i was out of grinding discs and cutting disks. got them finally and then off to the ranger race. pics will tell you but i must say that stupid steering box bracket that is welded on is finally gone :yahoo:

I know this is therangerstation, but this has got to be one of the most redneck builds Ive seen on here.

Git'r done.

its a 4.0L EFI from a 94 cherokee which i will be using the front dana 30 5 speed trans and transfer case also the rear end as it is already welded solid. got more pics to come up but not on my personal comp as it is still crashed :annoyed:
