Leaf slung d30, what model and year of jeep should I look at?

All of the jeep yjs (80s wranglers) are set up for leaf springs from the factory. As far as strength if your staying at or below a 33" tire youll be fine. I actually have met a guy at the offroad park with a leaf spring D30 on his ranger and it works fine but hes ok with staying small.

The reason I was looking at doing it with leafs is $. I know an sas ain't cheap but I'm tired of fighting the d28 to get rid of the bump steer and to work properly. Around here, we mainly have toys with leaf sas's and they ride nice. I'll look into the link set up though. Also I've been running 35s on a my stock front end for a few months and have yet to break anything with the 2.3l

yj's are set up for SUA... take that into account.

35's, you'll be fine on a d35 ttb or d30 as long as you don't act stupid w/ it.
leafs can ride good, if you get the right leafs and its a stupid simple setup. just remember, those yota's that have leaf sas'es, they have a box kit for $1000 that has everything basically. you have a ranger, you can't just buy a box kit... also the yota front axle is tons stronger than a d30 IMO. but both have great aftermarket support, you can get front hubs(lockouts) and chromo's for a d30 if you needed it. weak point being the unitbearing and c's. gusset the c's on it.

don't be scared of TTB (D35). just learn how to work it... use the right steering mainly.. modifided superrunner steering, stonecrusher, or custom crossover... just make it right and you can fix the issues. set up a ttb w/ xj coils, good brackets, good steering, extended ra's and so on.. it'll handle 35's also.

After doing an SAS on my old Ranger i can tell you the single biggest headache is the transfercase. If you have the 1350 dont even bother until you can put a 1354 in it. its not worth the headache and its something I didnt think about until after the fact.

I did it with a 1350 and have no problems. I also have the slip joint at the transfercase and Im fine. You can change out the slip joint on the 1350 for a yoke and make the drivesaft have the slip joint too.

When it comes to a D30 SAS, been there done that.
