The 4.0 sohc uses a 820s oil filter. Is there a larger capacity filter that will replace it? I'm guessing the screw on threads are metric. thanks:icon_cheers:

There is no point since a larger filter isn't going to filter any better, just hold more oil. But if you still insist, there is a thread about this over on explorerforum.com.

why would you want a larger capacity filter? It won't filter the oil any better. Just get motorcraft oil filters, their $4, and built for the truck.

820?? whats that. i thought they take the fram number PH8 which is one of the larger filters out there already.

You're right on the older models. The SOHC switched to the 820 somewhere around 2000. Not exactly sure of the year.

Yes go to the tech library and look up oil filter mod. Its the filter off an f250 I believe but same thread seal dimensions as ours, it just hold an extra quart. It has part numbers and all in the writeup. If you cant find it send me a PM Ill go find it.
