Hi folks,
I am hoping that you could lend me a hand. I am working on a paper for an assignment. It is suppose to be an argumentative essay. The topic I have chosen is, "Off-road recreational vehicles should/should not be banned from our national parks."

I am of course arguing that our vehicles should be allowed. I am basing my argument on proper land management, and reliable sources of information provided to users which is easily accessible. I have found many great sources, Tread Lightly, UFWDA, BFGoodwrich Outstanding Trails program… However I am having difficulty in tracking down sources of opposing literature. I know there are some real crazy nut job activists out there, but I can’t find any web sites for them.

Please help me with links to the sites.

Thankyou

In my experience it is really not any specific organization that is fighting to close trails...it is just a bunch of people who come out of the woodwork somehow. Being organized and calling themselves something implies that their motive is to take something away from somebody else...while we are fighting to keep what we have. Thus making them look like the bad guys.

There is also a lot of misinformation about the subject spread around. Some of it has a legitimate basis...like Cleetus and Jimbo goin muddin' out on the fire trails, getting stuck, and making a huge mess that somebody else has to clean up. (Happened locally.) So one incident gets a lot of negative press that gets everyone fired up and pretty soon nobody wants 4wd vehicles going down the trails that have existed for 100+ years or more.

I think you may be hard pressed to find information specific to 4wd trucks and the like, but you may have more luck with ATVs, UTVs, dirt bikes, etc. It is hard for a fellow 4wd enthusiast to say this about them but they DO tear everything up, they ARE annoying, they are blatantly disrespectful, and honestly there are way too many out there. In this area part of the problem comes down to not having even one place to go play so they just kind of go everywhere.

Might check with the US Forest Service, or BLM, or whatever gov agency you guys have out there. It's hard to say whose side they will be on.

Hope that helps.

I agree with Shran excpet for his dirt bike thing. It is like what the greenie's are doing to us. Painting us all with the same brush. I am an avid dirtbiker and I respect the trails the same wether I am using four wheels or two. It is the few ruining it for the many. Marked trails, don't tear up anything and everything and stay the trail.

Because of the a$sholes that tear the parks and trails up with their 4x4s and ATVs everyone who is a responsible driver suffers. Because of this it is a good idea to close down the trails. Find some private owned land and get permission to use it.
