93 3.0 My ranger recently started popping and had a lack of power when held at steady throttle at 1700 rpms. It only does it under load. I though it was my dirty dirty air filter that i replaced because it stopped for a day after i replaced it. But it has picked up again. Im not sure if its a lack of air or what but its driving me crazy! Any ideas??

Could be fuel starvation due to plugged fuel filter or bad coil misfiring under load. How long since fuel filter change? Coil is hard to diagnose without dyno to simulate rpm/load conditions and analyzer. You might also want to check fuel pressure under load as well.

II had a similar problem with a buddy's car after cleaning out a ton of crap from his EGR valve. The thing was so clogged that the car would barely run after due to the PCM having to compensate for being choked of air. We unhooked the negative terminal on the battery for 30 mins, started it up and it ran like a champ! You could be having a similar airflow issue, so unhook the battery and see if it helps any.
