Im rebuilding the suspension on my 1992 Ranger 4x4 and the left front axle sits almost an 1" further back that it should. wondering what could cause it to sit so far back.

The l/f beam / radius arm could be bent from a hard impact (I hit a small stump along a trail hidden by grass once). You should check all the mounts and ensure you're bushings and spacers are still intact at the rear of the radius arm as well.

i would bet the pivot bushing is shot and the radius arm bushing is shot.

I dropped the whole axle from the truck and found that the left I beam is actually bent. going to put it in a press and try to straighten it out if not its off to the junk yard to get a new one thanks for your help
