When it comes to bead locks, I'm not too smart, but does the outside part only get welded, don't the tires get knocked out on the inside too???

I guess what I'm typing, is why only one side ?!?

Robert

P.s. your welds look great

dye pen for airleaks? just an idea, should be able to get one at an industrial supply store.

Of the six sets I have done I have never checked for leaks lol. When I mount the tires each time a goop the hell out of the weld-rubber mating surface with bead sealer. Worked so far on 36 or so tires. And I know its not cause of my welding but the sealer sealing any potential pinholes lol.

The inner bead is considered a "strong bead" as in its alot harder to knock it off, vs the outside bead which is very easy. Weld the ring on the inside like kyle has. Drop the tire onto the rim with the inner bead normal on the rim then you rest the outside bead on the ring and the other ring clamps the baed of the tire between the rings. I have only ever seen one bead get pulled out of the rings. I have been running my LTB's at 2-3psi for almost two years and knock on wood haven't lost an inner bead yet.

Yup, what CTB2 said. The ring sits inside of the lip, then I welded the gap, then ground smooth. Maybe on the next ones I will take more detailed pictures.

Robert, thanks!

The inner bead is wider also, so it is harder to knock it off.

Alright, got the rest of the rings welded into the rims, took a few pictures of the process.

Ground the paint off the inside lip of the rim

Positioned the ring inside the rim, rotated it so the valve stem was between the bolts.

Here is the gap that gets filled in with weld

Then I started on my anticoaning rings, they are .125" thick by .5" wide

Then, last of all, I painted my rings booger green. I know I will teased for it, but F it, it's mine and I like it

More to come, like maybe some 38x12.50x15 Swamper TSL SX tires....
