Kyle M's Ranger Rebuild

Hey Kyle, sorry I didnt make it over your way on Saturday. I ended up having to take care of some things and make a few stops that sent me a different (long) way up north. Hope you have a happy Thanksgiving.

Oh, I got my linked suspension calculators and 3D rendering in the extreme suspensions section if you want to critique anything.

I waited all day for you to show up...:bawling:

But then I cracked open a few beers and forgot about it

:thefinger:

I will go check it out!

Hey Kyle, first let me say excellent job on the ranger. I read through the entire build tread(took me several days) and your ranger flexes very good. Second your mustang looks good too. Was your mustang light blue before you painted it? I noticed it in one of your stock ranger pics. My 5.0 is also light blue and I am going to change the color as soon as I can decide on one I like. I live just across the river in Missouri and have wanted to go to Land between the the lakes(I assume that is turkey bay) for years, but just never made it, back when I was riding an ATV and now with by Bronco. I am in the process of finding a trailer to haul my BII on and when I do if you dont mind me tagging along let me know when the next time you plan on going.

As far as Turkey Bay, I would love to go play out there with you, but it is about a 10 hour drive for me! I am in Michigan, but I do plan I heading down one of these days! If you ever come up this way, hit me up and we will go.

Edit: you think I like the driverside the best or what?!?!

Hey Kyle how hard were the Fox shocks to tune? and what special tools did you need to charge them?

Not really 'hard' to tune at all, just a little time consuming. All I did to tune was drain all the oil out, replaced it with new and a little more to help control the dampening. Then I just charged them over what I needed then slowly remove Nitrogen until I had them where I wanted them as far as ride height goes.

Special tools, well to start, you need a nitrogen tank that has over 500 psi. Then I made a little adapter to hook the tank up to the shock. It has a valve on it, a gauge and a locking shrader valve to hook to the shock....I might have to grab a pic so you can see what I did.... Fairly easy and it seems to be what others are doing. Only issue I have is trying to keep the pressure even in the shocks. If they are off by just alittle, the shocks wont sit level.

Over all, if you can figure out a way to mount these, you can figure out how to tune em.

Yea, I could do all that, I just might have a hard time coming up with a nitro tank, luckily we have a few offroad shops around town that might have one

Have you put any thought into what to do in the event of air shock failure on the trail?

Loving the (re)build! Keep it up!

No, not worried about it...plenty of stuff that could break that would be a whole lot worse LOL Beside, breaks on the trail are expected.

Thanks for watching though!

I remember when my truck looked like the one next to the stang lol good looking fox I used to have a 89 coupe the light blue forget the color name

Looks sweet, I thought about going the drag look, but decided to keep the street look

Alright, got the tires on the 8" wide rims, narrowed the truck back to about where it was with the 10" rims and no spacers. I liked the width better before but who cares...it'll wheel the same.

Anyway, I mounted the tires myself and used BB's to balance them. I put about 12oz. or so of them in each tire and they work incredibly well! Drove the truck to work today, ran em 70-75 down the e-way and they felt pretty good...go figure, BB's inside a tire would balance them out. Better yet, saved me 50 bucks for mounting and balancing.

So since I drove to work and there is a high-low there, what better thing to do than flex it out all the way, never did it yet.

Alright, that is all....flexes pretty good IMO. Rear did good too.

BTW, did ya notice the tires???

Thats sick. Whats the rear setup made up of?

It's just chevy 63's with long shackles. I think I wanna rework it some, the springs kinda twist as they flex and I would like to add a joint to the shackle the relieve the bind.
